New set of surprises in 2020!

Everyone who has played games on mobile has played at least one Supercell game, if not all! Based in Helsinki, Finland, Supercell Oy is a Finnish mobile game development company that was founded on May 16, 2010. The company started with the browser game, namely Gunshine.net. After its release in 2011, Supercell started developing games for mobile devices. After completing a decade of success, Supercell has now announced that they are set to launch new games as beta in 2021.

Since then, the company has fully released five mobile games, namely Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars which were freemium fast-paced games and have been very successful for the company. The first two of the lot generated a revenue of $2.4 million a day in 2013. Following its rapid growth, Supercell had opened additional offices in Tokyo, Shanghai, San Francisco, and Seoul. This was, in addition to their basic office in Niittykumpu in Espoo, Finland. In 2016, the company was bought out by Chinese conglomerate Tencent holdings taking an 81.4% stake in the company valued at USD 10.2 billion.

What to expect from Supercell in 2021?

Supercell’s CEO Ikka Paananen has written an annual letter on their take on Supercell’s year of 2020. He further discusses his plans of launching new games as beta for 2021. He mentions the challenges faced by the company and the achievements achieved by individual teams from the likes of Brawlstars, Clash of Clans till Clash Royale and Hay Day.

Supercell’s Revenue for FY2020 was at €1.30 billion (or $1.48 billion), and the profits before taxes amounted to €407 million (or $463 million). Supercell’s further plans on the games in 2021 did catch our attention.

I’m very hopeful that in 2021 we’ll have more new betas launched and potentially more than we’ve had in a very long time. Any of them could be killed at any time by the game teams due to our high-quality bar, but there is definitely a lot of excitement inside Supercell! We obviously cannot wait to show them to everyone, and hope we can share more news soon!
