Teamfight Tactics Set 4 Update: Everything you need to know

Are you having a good time playing the 3.5 sets? Feeling suffocated from the galaxies mechanics and maybe looking to have some fresh air? Recently on the Teamfight Tactics twitter handle, Riot has slowly unveiled what comes in the Teamfight Tactics set 4 update, scheduled for the 10.19 patch, scheduled for going public on September 16. The beta counterpart is going to PBE on September 2. The new Teamfight Tactics set 4 update brings champions with their fate pre-decided, new origins to crush enemies, and even 4-star upgrades.

Teamfight Tactics Set 4 Update: What does this update bring to the game

New modes

From the start, Teamfight Tactics came as a quick counterpart to its MOBA cousins, with plenty of space for you to just focus on building the team you would like the best or just make a champion 3-star to have some fun. As time passed, having the same Standard mode as the only way to play the game is kind of disappointing. That being said, TJ says that we can expect at least one new mode for the next year. He hints that the team focus is to bring a well-balanced, good paced mode. Focused on multiplatform players to play and have fun without spending too much time.

Spectator mode

One of the main issues right now for streamers and followers of the scenario is the lack of a spectator mode. Be it on a desktop or phone, you are unable to watch your friends (or high elo matches). On phones especially, you lack even a chat option. Addressing this matter, the producer says they hadn’t the time yet, but it is already a work in progress.
TJ addresses this explaining the team efforts to work on engaging ways that players can interact with the game. Also being able to watch and learn in loco.

Mobile Tweaks

One of the main problems for us as mobile gamers on TFT is the lack of a decent interface. The producer guarantees a better performing interface in the update, with in and out game feelings equal to the PC version.

Game Customization

Riot Games took into consideration the absurdity of buying the same item for an indefinite number of times just to get the Little Legend. For the next set, Little Legends level up with star shards. These are some new currency purchased after you obtain the Pass Plus or go for direct purchases at the store.

You can also purchase specific 1-star little legend or the wanted variation, and then upgrade it. That also means any current star legends have to be upgraded to 3-stars. Boards also get an upgrade, with a vow for the next patches – Responsive boards. Be it a winning streak or a big 3-star moment, maybe a close win or lose, your board will respond accordingly.

New Origins and Mechanics

Teamfight Tactics set 4 update

The new sets are always exciting for bringing new familiar synergies to the game as well as new massive changes. Nothing different this time around, the TFT Fates brings us some huge news, literally.

Starting with the new mechanic – Fate Mechanic. Fate is a key part of the new set that helps you boost your comp with the “Chosen” champion.
The chosen champion comes instantly at 2-star and counts as 2 for its origin or class. Moreover, the chosen hero also has a 200 hp bonus and may get even more HP, AP, or AD.

This Chosen Garen for instance alone has the Vanguard trait

But beware! Once you buy a Chosen champion, no other Chosen will appear at the shop until you sell it. So will you buy a Chosen at game start and work on a lead? Or build your comp and wait for a Chosen to give the final blow?
Keep in mind that even then, you won’t be able to always have the same champion Chosen in all games. So if you were planning to always force the same build with the same hero being Chosen, unfortunately, you cannot..

Teamfight Tactics Set 4 Update: Origins and Traits

Warlord

Signaled by Riot Games as a good starting point, it isn’t very hard to see why many will try this trait. Warlord gets health and ability power when combined, and a bonus of each stat for each battle they have participated in.

  • Warlords have an additional
    • (3) 150 HP & 10 SP
    • (6) 400 HP & 25 SP
    • (9) 600 HP & 50 SP
  • Each victorious combat they participate in grants additional HP & SP, stacking up to 5 times.
    • (3) 30 HP & 3 SP
    • (6) 40 HP & 5 SP
    • (9) 80 HP & 10 SP

Example Level 7 Composition – 6 Warlord 2 Assassin 2 Keeper 1 Ninja

  • Nidalee – (1 cost Warlord Sharpshooter)
  • Garen – (1 cost Warlord Vanguard)
  • Jarvan – (2 cost Warlord Keeper)
  • Pyke – (2 cost Cultist Assassin)
  • Katarina – (3 cost Warlord Assassin) (Warlord Chosen)
  • Kennen – (3 cost Ninja Keeper)
  • Xin Zhao – (3 cost Warlord Duelist)

Also, there is a section on the official webpage of the game, you can also see that the assassin bonus will now grant spell crit. Since Katarina is a Warlord chosen, the buff is granted with 5 heroes, because she counts as 2. The site also hints that Pyke has a CC combo with Kennen. Maybe saudosist players of shojin pyke will have the time of their lives.

Some of the known Warlords as of now:

  • Nidalee – (1 cost Warlord/Sharpshooter)
  • Garen – (1 cost Warlord/Vanguard)
  • Jarvan – (2 cost Warlord/Exemplar)
  • Vi – (2 cost Warlord/Brawler)
  • Katarina – (3 cost Warlord/Assassin)
  • Xin Zhao – (3 cost Warlord/Duelist)

Moonlight

What happens if you mix druids from Underlords and mech pilots from set 3? Riot answers this with Moonlight, a 3-piece trait costing either 1 or 2. Once activated, they will upgrade the lowest star, with ties giving the victory to the champ with most items. What if you have them all 3 stars? Well, then you get a 4-star champion, of course!

Teamfight Tactics set 4 update

Riot says they aren’t as strong as 4-cost 3-stars but are not something to ignore either.

  • Diana – (1 cost Moonlight Assassin)

Some of the known Moonlight as of now:

  • Diana – (1 cost Moonlight/Assassin)
  • Lissandra – (1 cost Moonlight/Dazzler)
  • Sylas – (2 cost Moonlight/Brawler)

Cultist

A whopping 8 hero origin, Cultist is an origin that brings no buff to the champions. Instead, they summon a massive Galio. The more cultists you have, the bigger the Galio.

Teamfight Tactics set 4 update
  • (3): Tyrant Galio
  • (6): Demon Lord Galio
  • (9): Supreme Overlord Galio

The stats growth may change, but the Supreme Overlord Galio has more than 7000 health and 600 AD. The tyrant Galio isn’t weak either, with 1800hp and a big AOE stun.

Example Level 7 Composition – 6 Cultist 2 Duelist 2 Vanguard

  • Elise – (1 cost Cultist Keeper)
  • Twisted Fate – (1 cost Cultist Mage)
  • Pyke – (2 cost Cultist Assassin)
  • Thresh – (2 cost Dusk Vanguard)
  • Evelynn – (3 cost Cultist Shade)
  • Kalista – (3 cost Cultist Duelist) (Duelist Chosen)

Some of the known Cultist as of now:

  • Elise – (1 cost Cultist/Exemplar)
  • Twisted Fate – (1 cost Cultist/Mage)
  • Pyke – (2 cost Cultist/Assassin)
  • Evelynn – (3 cost Cultist/Shade)
  • Kalista – (3 cost Cultist/Duelist)
  • Aatrox – (4 cost Cultist/Vanguard)

Assassins

No big info about the trait bonuses, but we know that spells will be able to crit. Assassins are known for bringing bonus damage output for fragile champions.

Some of the known Assassins as of now:

  • Pyke – (2 cost Cultist/Assassin)
  • Katarina – (3 cost Warlord/Assassin)

Brawler

Previous sets point to Brawler units getting buffier, usually granting them more hp.

Some of the known Brawlers as of now:

  • Sylas – (2 cost Moonlight/Brawler)
  • Vi – (2 cost Warlord/Brawler)

Dazzler

Not much information has come out as of now. We think given the champion thematic it may have something to do with Crowd Control.

Only Dazzler champion known as of now:

  • Lissandra – (1 cost Moonlight/Dazzler)

Duelist

Another unknown trait so far, but it is showcased as a great activation on Kalista. Our guess is with the damage output of the champion, with basic attacks being prioritized (like blademasters)

Some of the known Duelists as of now:

  • Kalista – (3 cost Cultist/Duelist)
  • Xin Zhao – (3 cost Warlord/Duelist)

Exemplar

No hints or previous knowledge about these. The champions have control in their kits, and 2 available forms. But we have no guess about those

Some of the known Duelists as of now:

  • Elise – (1 cost Cultist/Exemplar)
  • Jarvan – (2 cost Warlord/Exemplar)
  • Kennen – (3 cost Ninja/Exemplar)

Mage

Mages have gone back and forth on sets, usually gaining mana or Ability Damage. Until now, no hints have been given, but we do know what to expect.

Only known mage as of now:

  • Twisted Fate – (1 cost Cultist/Mage)

Ninja

Previously, we had a ninja buff that only worked when you had a specific amount of them on the board. But there are no clues of what to expect this time.

Only known ninja as of now:

  • Kennen – (3 cost Ninja/Exemplar)

Dusk/Phantasm

Now there is absolutely not a single thing that can be related to this other than speculating possible champions with this trait.

Currently known Dusk:

  • Thresh – (2 cost Dusk/Vanguard)

Shade

The only spotlighted champion being Evelynn, it seems to be related to mischief and invisibility. There are no pieces of information about this trait as well.

Currently known Shade:

  • Evelynn – (3 cost Cultist/Shade)

Sharpshooter

Another mystery that is being speculated to be a replacement for Snipers, but we would wait. As Nidalee throw spears and there are other champions with similar equip to come our guess goes to something related to Armor/Magic resist penetration.

Only Sharpshooter as of now:

  • Nidalee – (1 cost Warlord/Sharpshooter)

Vanguard

So once again, the feature for frontline heroes that have changed its name through the sets is expected to come with the 10.19 update. Historically, the champions of this trait win flat or percent ratios of armor.

Some of the known Vanguard as of now:

  • Garen – (1 cost Warlord/Vanguard)
  • Thresh – (2 cost Phantasm/Vanguard)
  • Aatrox – (4 cost Cultist/Vanguard)
