The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin Developer Notes for Version 1.2 Updates, Appreciation Rewards, and Future Plans

Netmarble has published the ninth installment of their ongoing Developer Notes series for The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, the open-world action RPG based on Nakaba Suzuki’s beloved manga franchise. In this edition, the development team outlines their key improvements coming in Version 1.2. I hope they can keep the momentum going with these new releases.

They also address the future direction of updates and deliver a personal message of appreciation to the community. It is a sign that the team is entering a more stable and ambitious phase of post-launch development. This is great for optimisation issues; the game was launched with. If they managed to get this done, all my complaints about the performance will hopefully be addressed here.

A Sincere Apology by the developers and a Gift for Star Guardians

The notes then open on a reflective and thankful tone. The development team acknowledges that, due to stability issues experienced since launch, some players may have developed concerns about future updates and the overall direction of the game, and they sincerely apologize for not being able to provide a sufficiently stable experience. This is an acceptable message from the devs, as we are getting something.

Rather than just words, they back up this apology with tangible rewards. A special gift has been prepared for all Star Guardians as a token of appreciation, distributable via the in-game mailbox and available to claim until May 13 (Wed) at 07:00 UTC. Additional rewards were also teased for the special update 1.2 livestream and the forthcoming Developer Notes in the future.

Quality-of-Life Improvements in Version 1.2

The bulk of the update focuses on addressing long-standing player frustrations with several systems. One of the most consistently requested changes since launch, the “Continuous Tracking” feature for gathering and mining, is finally arriving. The team explains that the delay was due to the feature requiring structural improvements rather than a simple adjustment.

With this change, players can now continuously gather or mine while tracking targets, making resource collection far less tedious during open-world exploration. The team has also responded to consistent feedback about engraved equipment crafting, where players previously had no way to check passive skills or stats before committing materials.

The Version 1.2 update will allow players to preview equipment options directly from the crafting screen. The developers specifically apologized for not implementing this sooner, acknowledging that it should have been addressed earlier. Another area receiving attention is the main quest flow in the Liones Region.

After closely analyzing player drop-off rates during the early tutorial stages, the team identified that more Star Guardians than expected were struggling to progress through specific tutorial steps, particularly around defeating enemies in the Pernes swamps. Improvements to quest flow and guidance in this area are part of the Version 1.2 rollout.

Equipment Systems and Future Content Direction

Beyond the immediate fixes, the team has previewed how the equipment crafting system will evolve going forward. Future armor sets will follow a targeted material system, allowing players to craft specific parts using materials obtained from each type of content. This shift toward content-specific crafting materials should give players clearer goals to work toward and make endgame progression feel more purposeful.

Before wrapping up the notes, the team also directly addressed the many questions from players across all regions about their plans and the direction of upcoming updates, acknowledging that community feedback from surveys and the official Discord had been closely reviewed.

The future Developer Notes are coming

Perhaps the most exciting announcement tucked within the notes is the confirmation of a sequel developer communication. The team confirmed that more detailed plans for the future update direction will be shared in a follow-up Developer Notes on April 22, following a special update livestream on April 21.

This suggests that the Version 1.2 patch is not just a bug-fix wave, but the opening chapter of a more ambitious content roadmap that Netmarble is eager to discuss. I sincerely hope their livestream shows what they have cooked on so far, and hope it’s not burned.

Final Thoughts

Developer Notes reads as a genuine attempt by Netmarble to rebuild trust with a community that has weathered a rocky launch. The combination of concrete quality-of-life improvements, a transparent acknowledgment of what went wrong, free rewards, and a clear signal that bigger plans are on the way paints a more confident picture for the game’s future.

Whether The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin can convert this goodwill into long-term player retention remains to be seen, but the direction is clearly heading in the right way. Star Guardians would do well to keep an eye on the April 21 Livestream for the full picture of what’s ahead.
