Popular YouTuber and Esports player Neyoo, aka Suraj Majumdar, is entangled in a major controversy as he is under fire for abusing a minor on his live stream. The clippings of the stream vent viral as he’s seen hurling abuses and the streamer also has apologized for the mishap, although people are still criticizing this.
Update on July 4th, 2024: The aftermath of the incident followed by many debates, Carnival Gaming has announced that it bid farewell to Neyoo via their official Instagram handle, via a story.
Neyoo says he was triggered by racist remarks by the minor; apologizes for the incident
The heart of the matter pins down on the 1st of July, 2024, when the YouTuber with over 600K subscribers was live streaming on Ome TV, a video chat platform. In this chat, he encountered an underage girl. The conversation didn’t go as it should have since the girl began the convo by racial abuse on Neyoo along with other derogatory terms.
This didn’t sit well with Neyoo; in response, he said some very “filthy” things to her that he shouldn’t have. He even made degrading remarks and signs, in the pretext of making a joke. As expected, this went viral and was slammed online by many, even asking Police to investigate the matter and take action on the 24-year-old.
Neyoo apologized, saying he was truly sorry for what happened on the stream. Via his Instagram story, he mentions that should have considered the situation and ignored it instead of reacting angrily. He said he didn’t intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments and is not that kind of person, and also mentioned that it won’t happen in the future.
Prominent names react, say Neyoo’s apology was”AI generated” and needs “mental therapy”
Even with his apology, people aren’t happy with the controversy surrounding Neyoo and his actions towards the minor.
Journalist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj tweeted about Neyoo, saying that his behavior was disturbing, stating: “what kind of influencers are impacting our younger generation”. Fellow streamer Lokesh Jain, who goes by Goldy Bhai among the streaming community, called out Neyoo for his actions.
Prominent Esports figure and Gaming YouTuber Scout also mistakenly shared Neyoo’s abusive clip on his story which was aimed to promote his live stream, but removed it shortly after realizing it was a mistake. Many even called out the apology as Chat GPT generated and wasn’t in Neyoo’s own words.
With the matter escalating every hour, with looming threats of this case being investigated by the police, Neyoo seems to have found himself in deep trouble. Without any doubt, such incidents shouldn’t be supported and must teach a lesson to the offenders. Additionally, this raises a concern as such chat platforms should be strictly 18+, with no explanation of how a child gained access.
However, it is disheartening to see these popping up now and then, since we were just able to digest the news of Dr Disrespect who was found to be sexting a minor before his controversial ban from Twitch. In the Indian scene itself, earlier this March another Gaming creator Maxtern was embroiled in controversy as Bigg Boss fame Elvish Yadav was accused of attacking the former.
