ZOZ: Final Hour begins open beta test on Android for Brazil and Indonesia

Fight as a mercenary or take revenge as a zombie!

The open beta test for ZOZ: Final Hour will begin on Google Play in Brazil and Indonesia, with other areas to follow, according to the announcement by NetEase Games. Last October, the game’s Closed Beta Test began in Brazil.

Experience a realistic post-apocalyptic atmosphere

The game’s unique feature is the transformation from a man to a zombie. In ZOZ, players take on the role of a mercenary and travel to San Yager, a zombie-infested city, in pursuit of a mysterious material known as Blood Crystal. When they’ve gathered enough of it, their mission shifts to evacuation. If a player is slain, the Merc transforms into a Zombie Merc and is permitted to continue the game with a new goal: turning the other players into their own species.

The battleground is set in a colorful cityscape with hospitals, shopping malls, and even an amusement park to create a genuine post-apocalyptic environment. Players will be dumped into a battlefield made up of seven randomly created plots when the game starts. Only hostile zombies remain when the once-vibrant urban landscape is deserted and destroyed-this stark contrast produces a powerful sense of immersion. According to Brian, the developer of ZOZ: Final Hour, in his final developer’s letter:

We wanted our players to be able to compete on an equal playing field. But we also realized that classical PvP games are absolute experiences. Players are overjoyed when they win, but frustrated when they lose. Then we started thinking, is there a way to reduce the failure penalty, so death wouldn’t mean game over for players, but instead, a new beginning? The ‘zombie mercenary’ is our answer to this problem. Players who take on this role will have a new upgrade system with mutation skills, and a new mission – kill the humans. As a Zombie Mercenary, you will be free from the restraints of death and can respawn an infinite number of times.

The game is powered by a NetEase-developed gaming engine that creates dynamic and realistic light and shadow effects in the game by imitating real-world city design and employing next-generation rendering technology to increase the game’s realism and engagement. Players from the above-mentioned regions can download ZOZ: Final Hour from Google Play here.
