Neverness to Everness Review: A Stylish Urban Open-World With Untapped Potential

Does this fulfill its promise?

Story Highlights
  • Neverness to Everness introduces a modern urban fantasy world filled with mysterious anomalies and hidden forces.
  • The narrative shows strong potential, but needs better execution to become truly memorable.

Neverness to Everness enters the open-world RPG genre with a refreshing urban fantasy setting, blending modern city life with supernatural elements. From stylish combat to immersive exploration mechanics like driving and interacting with NPCs, the game offers a different flavor compared to traditional fantasy-based gacha titles.

However, while the game impresses in several areas, it also comes with noticeable limitations. After playing on an iQOO Neo 10R for around 24 to 26 hours post-global launch and roughly 50 to 55 hours including beta time, is Neverness to Everness truly worth your time in 2026? Let’s break it down.

Fun gameplay and fluid combat that feels instantly satisfying

Starting with the review, let us talk about the combat and gameplay of Neverness to Everness. In my opinion, NTE Gameplay and Combat are one of the game’s strongest aspects. It’s not perfect, but it stands out compared to many similar titles. Animations are smooth, transitions feel natural, and abilities hit with satisfying impact, making even basic encounters fun.

While some players may prefer a faster-paced combat experience, those who enjoy relaxed combat will appreciate the variety of characters and the engaging combat system Neverness to Everness provides. Each character brings unique abilities.

While not overly complex, the system provides enough depth to reward smart team compositions. The game has fun gameplay that gradually becomes more addictive. There’s plenty to do in NTE, including missions, farming, anomaly hunts, driving cars, causing chaos in the city, and purchasing property and cars.

There’s more to do, so the content variety makes the game playable in the long term. Still, I would say Neverness to Everness combat and gameplay have room for growth, and show great potential in the future.

Fresh story and setting that breaks the usual gacha formula

Unlike typical fantasy RPGs, the Neverness to Everness story takes place within the expansive urban city of Hethereau, where the world is filled with supernatural Anomalies that roam around the streets and alleys. In this world, you control characters to investigate, fight, and explore the city of Hethereau.

The game’s modern city environment immediately stands out. Skyscrapers, streets, and neon lights create a grounded yet mysterious world that feels different from the start. The story introduces compelling ideas like anomalies and hidden forces shaping the world.

While the world-building is intriguing, the pacing can feel inconsistent at times. Some story arcs are engaging and immersive, while others feel underdeveloped. Once again, the story shows strong potential, but it needs execution to truly stand out.

Exploration adds a unique layer of freedom

The open world is one of the game’s biggest strengths. The urban setting isn’t just for visuals; it actively enhances exploration. Streets feel alive, and the environment creates a sense of immersion rarely seen in gacha games. We can drive vehicles across the city, interact with NPCs in different locations, and can do different jobs to earn currencies easily.

The freedom to explore a modern city instead of a traditional fantasy map adds a unique identity to the game. While some areas may feel less interactive than expected, the overall experience remains highly enjoyable, which, in my opinion, is also one of the most unique systems in the genre.

Stunning visuals and audio experience that is worth your time

Visuals and Audio aspects are where Neverness to Everness truly shines. I play the game both on PC and Android, and on both devices, the visuals were stunning. In my sole opinion, NTE is very well optimized for Android devices. Even if you play the game at the lowest setting, you can get beautiful visuals.

Character models are detailed, animations are fluid, and the lighting enhances the modern city atmosphere beautifully. But still, one aspect I would point out is that this game needs some optimization, especially in dark places.

The audio design complements the visuals well, with immersive background music and satisfying sound effects during combat and exploration. Not only can we hear different types of music in cars, but with a gadget, we can hear music everywhere. The audio complements the visuals perfectly, which makes the game more enjoyable.

Controls are responsive and backed by a good UI

Controls are generally smooth and responsive, but sometimes lag during combat. Driving mechanics feel intuitive and fun. I don’t have any complaints about the controls, other than the lag during combat.

The UI design is good and intuitive, making it easy to navigate through menus, quests, and other game features. It provides all the necessary information, but new players may feel cluttered because of too many menus and options at once, as there are many features in the game, which is expected.

Again, even though texts on UI are easy to read, the controls and UI could be improved with a little refinement for better accessibility and ease of use.

Gacha System is very much appreciated compared to other titles

What I like about Neverness to Everness is its more generous approach to the gacha system compared to other similar games. Like other gacha games, NTE doesn’t have a 50/50 system, which saves our resources and removes the pain of losing a 50/50. Not only can we get S-rank weapons within 10 pulls, but we can also purchase our desired weapon with only 25 pulls.

This is especially beneficial for players who may have had bad luck in pulling certain limited characters, including me, as they can invest without fear of getting undesirable results. Overall, the gacha system in Neverness to Everness rewards you and provides enough opportunities to obtain desired items without excessive frustration.

NTE being free-to-play friendly is yet another of its positives

Neverness to Everness sets a very strong first impression for free-to-play players by offering up to 470 pulls for free through a combination of pre-registration rewards, progression milestones, events, and login bonuses. Not only does NTE not have a 50/50 system, but we can also get S-rank weapons for free by hunting Anomalies, which is a huge win for F2P players.

New players also get a chance to choose a Free S rank character for free after 50 pulls, which gives every player a fast start from the beginning. This level of generosity is significantly higher than what most gacha games offer at launch. It allows players to build multiple characters early, experiment with team compositions, and progress comfortably without spending money.

Final Verdict

Neverness to Everness delivers a refreshingly stylish take on the open-world gacha genre, backed by strong visuals, fluid combat, and one of the most generous F2P systems seen at launch. Its modern urban setting helps it stand out immediately, while features like vehicle exploration and anomaly-based gameplay add a unique identity.

The absence of a 50/50 system, massive free pulls, and farmable S-rank gear further strengthen its appeal, making it highly accessible for both casual and dedicated players. However, the game isn’t without its flaws.

The UI can be cluttered, and the long-term gameplay loop may risk becoming repetitive. While Version 1.0 lays an incredibly strong foundation, the real test will be how future updates expand content and maintain balance.

If the developers continue improving systems and adding depth, Neverness to Everness has the potential to evolve from a promising title into a top-tier game in the genre.

Good

Neverness to Everness feels fresh with its urban setting, smooth combat, and a surprisingly generous gacha system. That said, it's not perfect but it is a strong start with a lot of potential and genuine fun, and definitely worth trying if you enjoy open-world RPGs.
