Tokyo Olympics 2020 featured video game soundtracks as background music

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 have kicked off after a long wait and a welcome surprise greeted gamers at the opening ceremony. The ceremony was conducted in full extravaganza and the background tunes may have been quite familiar for some dedicated gamers.

A virtual touch

The opening ceremony featured background music that caught the ears of many gamers from around the globe. The decision to use video game soundtracks as background music and not one that has been done that often in the past at such grand events. The list included music from some of the most famous games in Japan such as Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter, and Dragon Quest.

Interestingly enough, Nintendo, the gaming giant and arguably the biggest company in Japan had no cameo to play in the orchestra. Nonetheless, the playlist on offer was of high quality and added some spice to the opening ceremony of the games.

Some of the other notable appearances include the “Frog Theme” from the 80s classic Chrono Trigger, which was later released for smartphone devices was among the most notable entries. The “walk-on” theme from Konami’s eFootball, one of the most successful sports games for smartphone devices also made an appearance. For a full list of the tunes offered, check out the list below.

The above tunes certainly greeted welcome surprise and added a breath of fresh air to the games, which have been muddled in controversy, mostly due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This ceremony of Tokyo Olympics 2020 may well set the precedent for more grand sporting events such as the World Cup to use video game soundtracks in the future.
