Free Fire World Series 2021 (FFWS) has been canceled due to Covid-19 issues

The  Free Fire World Series 2021 (FFWS), which was set to be held later in November 2021, has now been canceled due to concerns regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. The FFWS is Free Fire’s largest and most exciting esports offline tournament which is held every year. The growing safety concerns, however, have made it challenging to provide players and fans both an enjoyable yet safe offline esports experience.

The Free Fire World Series (FFWS) is generally held two times a year. This is the highest level of competition that Free Fire offers to the players worldwide. Prior to this, the FFWS was successfully held as an offline event in Singapore that featured 18 teams from all over the world. In the end, it was the Thai team, Phoenix Force who were placed first and took the lion’s share of the $2 million prize pool

Announcing the cancellation of FFWS 2021, Garena said that the well-being of everyone involved in the FFWS was their top priority as they carefully considered all options. Moreover, they said it was a difficult decision not to hold the event to continue safeguarding the health and safety of the Free Fire community.

The World Series stands as Free Fire’s largest and most exciting esports offline tournament. The growing safety concerns, however, have made it challenging to provide players and fans both an enjoyable yet safe offline esports experience. We would like to thank all our players, fans, and partners for their continued support, and look forward to hosting all Free Fire players and fans safely in time to come.

statement from Garena

Last year, the FFWS was canceled as well due to the pandemic. After that, the event was replaced with the Free Fire Continental Series 2020 (FFCS). This tournament was played online and had three separate regions, EMEA, Americas, and Asia.

Moreover, Garena has also said that there are some big plans for different Free Fire esports events across the world this year. It appears that Garena is looking to host smaller events around the world after the unfortunate cancellation of FFWS 2021. But it is also speculated that these tournaments won’t be as big as the FFCS that was held in 2020.
