Mobile Global Esports partners with Somaiya Vidyavihar University to build India’s first-ever professional Esports arena

Somaiya Vidyavihar University will be the first university in India to have an Esports Arena!

The competitive gaming industry is expanding its scope as India’s esports market has become one of the largest and fastest-growing esports marketplaces in the world. And now, Mobile Global Esports and Somaiya Vidyavihar University announced their collaboration to build India’s first-ever professional esports arena. This professional esports arena will feature a sizable seating capacity to host big tournaments will be constructed at Somaiya Vidyavihar University, becoming the first university in India to do so.

The participation of India in global esports competitions is also growing. Nation bagged the bronze medal in DOTA 2 at the Commonwealth Esports Championship in 2022. Also, the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) is sending an 18-member team to the upcoming Asian Games across gaming titles including FIFA 22, Street Fighter V, Hearthstone, League of Legends, and DOTA 2.

All of these hint at the potential of the Indian gaming market, which many organizations including Mobile Global Esports (MOGO) want to tap into. MOGO aims to become the first mobile gaming firm in India and South Asia to provide student-athletes with one of the biggest esports platforms to encourage university and college competition.

Speaking about the same, Aazaz Khan, the Director – Somaiya Sports Academy of Somaiya Vidyavihar University said, “We are excited for this venture with Mobile Global eSports Inc. Somaiya has always been a pioneer when it comes to holistic education through sports and sports infrastructure has been one of the main focus for us. eSports is the fastest growing sport in the world and requires utmost skill, it was an axiomatic decision to go forward and create the eSports facility with MoGo. We look forward to making Somaiya an eSports hub.” 

Esports competition will be organized in the MOGO Somaiya Vidyavihar University Esports arena 

As per a report published in India Observers, MOGO has organized 27 Esports tournaments in India for titles including Valorant and Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). It has also been listed on NASDAQ. They have also announced to host a Call of Duty tournament with a prize pool of Rs. 1 Million.

The CEO of MOGO Esports Sunny Bhandarkar is hopeful of organizing the next season of esports competition in the MoGo SVU esports arena.  Additionally, they also plan to launch a mobile esports academy with certified esports coaches in partnership with SVU, starting November 2022. He added,

We are happy to announce that we are the first ones to build an arena dedicated to Esports. We would also like to thank the management of Somaiya Vidyavihar University, especially the sports director for taking this step with us. Since the beginning, our focus was creating a platform for students who could choose Esports as a career and we have been constantly working towards it. This is a new dawn and we hope to see many more universities take the same approach.

This partnership marks a huge step in shaping esports in India and providing the right kind of infrastructure to encourage the youth for taking up esports as a profession.
