At long last, after years of thriving in the SEA region, the professional league for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MPL) makes its way to the Americas, in the lovely country of Brazil. Announced officially on social media, tweets, and Instagram posts are already sporting the soon-to-be trending “#MPLBR”, showcasing the strong entry of the South American region into the pro ML scene. ML ESports fans can definitely look forward to the appearance of even more teams to look out for professionally as MPL now arrives in Brazil. And with this, fans can see some new strategies coming from MPL Brazil or MPL-BR.
Brazil’s international presence
Aside from the performance of DreamMax at the M2 Championship, Brazil has also hosted their own tournament nationally in 2020, dubbed the Brazil National Championship. This tournament actually served as a pseudo-qualifiers for Brazilian MLBB teams to duke it out to represent Brazil in M2, for which DreamMax ultimately won the position.
Despite their subpar performance in the global tournament when facing stellar powerhouses like Alter Ego, Bren Esports, or Burmese Ghouls, DreamMax has already proven that Brazil is ready to compete and are looking to strengthen their global presence as professional MLBB competitors.
Mobile Legends MPL Brazil Season 1
By creating and hosting their own national MPL, Brazil looks to grow e-sports even more nationally and possibly even in the Americas region. Other competitive MOBA games such as League of Legends and Dota 2 have been the staple of focus in the Americas esports market, but bringing in MLBB in the form of #MPLBR, will introduce a new face in the market, and quite possibly bring more traffic to MLBB as a whole.
Tournament format
Starting in 2022, MPL Brazil will feature 2 seasons every year, with each season divided into 4 stages: Qualifiers, Regular Season, Playoffs, and Grand Finals. In each season, there will be 6 invited teams as well as the top 2 teams from the Qualifiers participating in the Regular Season. Teams will compete in Best of 3 matches during the Regular Season and Playoffs, and a Best of 5 for the Grand Final, to be held in Sao Paulo.
The reason for hosting qualifiers at the first point, is that a similar set of qualifiers did help to increase the traffic for its respective MPL Seasons. Whatever the case, eyes are certainly fixated on Brazil now to keep up and enter the professional MLBB scene.
