Wild Rift League Asia: Fennel coaching staff, Hamez, confesses to match-fixing alongside the players

New scar in the scene

In a shocking turn of events, the coaching staff of FENNEL (previously known as Fennel Adversity), Hamez Santos, came out with confessions of match-fixing against Nigma Galaxy during the Wild Rift League Asia Regular Season. The coach and three players FLA Aker, FLA Arisen and FLA Ryuken apparently agreed on a match-fixing offer in exchange for receiving an amount almost equal to the prize money, which they would have received for the sixth position.

Wild Rift Fennel match-fixing: How the situation unfolded

In a recent post on Facebook, Hamez revealed that two days before their last match, he received an offer from an acquaintance who offered them a significant sum of money, in exchange for throwing their game against Nigma Galaxy. It is worth mentioning that FENNEL and Nigma Galaxy were the two teams who represented the Philippines in the Wild Rift League Asia competition.

Following a talk of the offer to the players, all three of the accused players, Aker, Arisen, and Ryuken decided to go through with the agreement and throw the game in NGX’s favour. To provide more evidence that the players agreed, Hamez also uploaded a Google Drive folder in which he detailed every one of the game’s blunders that were done on purpose by them. In addition, the coach divulged private conversations he had with his players, during which they were seen plotting the overall strategy of throwing the game while avoiding being caught in the act.

Surprisingly, the match was suspected of being fixed, and ended in FENNEL’s favor, as the team won 2-1 over Nigma Galaxy. Even in light of the confession, it is not entirely obvious how FENNEL managed to win the match if it was fixed. However, there are a few people who believe that they may have won accidentally. On the other side, there is one set of individuals who believe that Hamez is scheming an intricate conspiracy against the team.

Riot Games is yet to comment on the FENNEL match-fixing issue

The incident has been brought to the attention of Riot Games, which organizes the competition. In esports, it is not uncommon for players to engage in dishonest practices such as match manipulation and cheating. To this day, however, not a single instance of dishonesty has been left unpunished. Both FENNEL and the players are expected to face heavy penalties if all the accusations against them are proven true.
