FIFA Heroes has offered us an experience to try out a fast-paced, arcade-style football experience on mobile. Unlike traditional football games, this one focuses on short, action-heavy matches filled with abilities, flashy moves, and, of course, some extra fun.
With a mix of real players, mascots, and even mythological characters, the game leans more toward fun factor rather than realism. Still, there needs to be some basics to learn before we jump into the title, and to help you with it, here’s my FIFA Heroes Beginners Guide with all the Tips and Tricks you need to know.
FIFA Heroes Gameplay Overview
FIFA Heroes is designed to be quick and intense. Matches are played in small arenas, and instead of long build-ups, you just quickly try to score a goal. The reason behind the slight sense of urgency is that the game is built around 5v5 gameplay, and matches will only last around 90 seconds.

You control one player at a time, moving, passing, tackling, and shooting while switching between teammates when needed. Now, what is different here is the abilities and special moves, which are chaotic and can confuse the opponent, not just you.
FIFA Heroes Basics, Players, and Progression
Gameplay Basics
The game still follows simple football mechanics, and the tutorial explains everything you need to know. You move your player using the joystick, pass to teammates, take shots, and defend by tackling or intercepting passes.
While the left pad is for movement, there will be buttons that will guide you, such as skill, pass, and shoot during attacking, tackle, and switch for defense. Shoot only comes with a single function, while the pass can be low and lofted, and the latter can be activated by a slightly longer press.
Players and Abilities
With basics out of the way, the next main focus will be on your players. Of course, these aren’t real players, and most of the players are fictional, unless you pull legends like Maradona, who is likely not in the game yet at the time of writing.
Clicking on the Team menu will give you complete access to the team and its players. Players in FIFA Heroes come in different types and rarities, for now we have Common. They are also based on style of play, which includes: Goalkeeper, Finisher, Protector, Freestyler, and others.

Each one has unique stats and abilities that affect how they perform on the pitch. For regular outfield players, you’ll see attributes like Attack (ATK), Speed (SPD), Passing (PAS), Defense (DEF), and Skill (SKI). Goalkeepers have a different set of attributes, including Diving (DIV), Reflexes (REC), Handling (HAN), and Passing (PAS).
Their definitions are as follows:
- Attack (ATK): The higher your attack, the more powerful your shots on goal will be.
- Speed (SPD): The attribute to define how fast the character is on their feet.
- Passing (PAS): Higher passing stat, more accurate the pass.
- Defense (DEF): A high defense stat means better tackling ability to get the ball back.
- Skill (SKI): This is the attribute that defines how easily you can dodge the incoming tackles.
- Diving (DIV): The Goalkeeper’s ability to make big saves.
- Reflexes (REC): Higher recovery means your GK will be back on his feet faster after saving.
- Handling (HAN): Better handling allows goalkeeer to catch shots more often.
Each player also comes with a special ability, like powerful shots or unique passes, which can be triggered during matches.

On top of that, players can be upgraded using coins after collecting character shards, but upgrades are tied to your overall profile level, meaning you need to progress your account to improve players further.
Resources and progression
Progression in FIFA Heroes is tied to a mix of currencies and leveling systems. You play a match, you win, level up. As for currency, Coins are the main resource used to upgrade players, while there are Gems as a premium currency to unlock Avatars, Goal Celebrations, Pitches, and others.
Your profile level is just as important as your resources. Even if you have enough coins, you won’t be able to upgrade players beyond certain points unless your account level increases. So, climbing up the ranks to reach the higher leagues becomes important.
FIFA Heroes Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks to remember
Here are some simple tips and tricks I’ve followed to upgrade quickly and improve my footballing experience in FIFA Heroes.
1. Follow football fundamentals

Even though FIFA Heroes is flashy and ability-driven, basic football still matters. The core of football hasn’t been left out, so passing, positioning, and using skill moves at the right time will always give you an advantage over just running forward blindly or hogging the ball.
2. Use abilities as soon as they are ready
Special moves can completely change a match, and since games are only around 90 seconds long, there’s no point in saving them too long. Use them whenever they’re available, which is indicated on the right side. Click it to use them, and repeat once their timer is active again.
3. Complete challenges regularly

Always one of the simple yet better tips. Challenges are one of the easiest ways to earn rewards early on. Since they refresh, consistently completing them helps you build resources without grinding too much. Keep checking them in the Challenges menu.
4. Level up your account and players together
Upgrading players depends on both coins and your profile level. Focus on playing matches and completing tasks to level up faster, which in turn allows you to improve your characters.
