The long-awaited continuation of the Sumeru Archon Quest has been released in the 3.1 version update. Genshin Impact added two new Archon Quests; Act III “Dreams, Emptiness, Deception” and Act IV “King Deshret and the Three Magi”. In this Genshin Impact guide, we will tell you about the Sumeru Archon Quest Act III “Dreams, Emptiness, Deception, and provide special insight and review of the story.
How to unlock and complete the Sumeru Archon Quest Act III “Dreams, Emptiness, Deception” in Genshin Impact
- Players must be at Adventure Rank (AR) 35 or above.
- Completed “The Morn a Thousand Roses Brings” Archon Quest.
Part I: Like a Triumphant Hero
- Talk to Katheryne (Nahida) in Sumeru City and continue to follow her.
- Gather all information as instructed by Nahida and talk to her.
- Wait till tomorrow afternoon (12:00 to 18:00).
- Follow Nahida’s plan of breaking Setaria’s mental.
- Talk to Setaria and wait for her plan to visit the following night. (19:00-24:00)
- Meet up with Nahida and visit the Akademia.

Part II: The Gaze from a Certain God
- Visit Gandharva Ville to talk to Tighnari.

Genshin Impact Sumeru Archon Quest Act III “Dreams, Emptiness, Deception”: In-Depth Review and Discussion
Leaving off of the last Archon Quest, we finally investigate the Sages’ whole plan in the Akademia with Nahida’s help and guidance. Nahida once again is proving herself to be a very promising and amazing Archon. Despite her underlying insecurities of not being up to par with the previous Archon, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata, she is very forefront about helping the Traveler and the people of Sumeru and does not hesitate to directly protect her people no matter the cost.
Just like the previous Archon Quests on Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma, we once again run into the Fatuis. This time the game introduces us to a new Harbinger. Il Dottore, the Second of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers (Although he was first introduced in the Genshin Impact Webtoon). Just by the first impressions, we get to see the twisted side of the Harbingers again as Dottore explains how he is controlling the minds of the people of Sumeru and has been experimenting on them.
After the traveler leaves and heads to Pardis Dhyai to find Tighnari, and rendezvous with Nahida along, they encounter Haypasia and she shows the Traveler the ‘Divine Enlightenment’ she saw with the Spirit Borneol. We then get to see an amazing cutscene of yet another Fatui Harbinger, Scaramouche, the Sixth of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers.
The heavy lore dump of Scaramouche, also known as Kunikuzushi, really set the character apart from the rest of the Harbingers as we finally get to dive a bit into his backstory and the goals he is trying to accomplish.
At this point, we finally piece together the Sages’ plans and reasoning for their alliance with the Fatuis. Having a heavy dislike for their Lesser Lord Kusanali, the Sages are planning to make a new God of Wisdom by having Scaramouche be their new God with the help of the Electro Gnosis he stole back in Inazuma and Dottore’s experimentation.
Accessing all the information and Nahida’s hints, the traveler sets their journey to the Desert. From this point on Nahida takes a backseat, as in this Quest and in the next Archon Quest, we get to experience interesting group chemistry with some new faces who would be running the story and plot forward. When we visit Aaru Village we meet two new characters, Cyno and Candace.
Chemistry between Cyno, Alhaitham, Dehya, and Candace
Candace is the guardian of Aaru Village. Even though she is a side character, we get to study her personality and ideals throughout the quest as a warm-hearted but determined and fierce warrior. From here we find out about the strange case of the disappearances of mad scholars in the village.
Cyno also leaves a very notorious impression in his debut. He seems to be very serious, stoic, and hostile. As a trained General Mahamatra, it is a given to have these characteristics. Although, Cyno has shown to be very vigilant in his views of justice having no means to stop himself from executing punishment to those who wronged the rules, including Alhaitham.
Dehya and Alhaitham also join in the Archon Quest again with Dehya still acting as brash as ever and Alhaitham having more ulterior and personal motives in his mind.
Speaking of Alhaitham, an interesting dynamic duo that stood out the most was Cyno and Alhaitham. It was exciting seeing them clash with hostility (mostly from Cyno’s side) and have passive-aggressive banter. It sets a tone of their difference in opinions and viewpoints throughout the story. Not to mention, the fight scene between Alhaitham and Cyno outside Aaru Village was spectacular to witness.
Overall, Cyno, Alhaitham, Dehya, and Candace’s group interactions and dynamic in the whole story is refreshing and welcome to see in an Archon Quest because in most cases, we always see the Traveler and Paimon in the focal point of the information exchange and dialogues.
The story sets up to lead to the investigation of the disappearances of the Mad Scholars (Village Keepers) of the Akademia and we will probably find our answers in the next Archon Quest. Sumeru’s whole plot overall is shaping out to be promising and may as well surpass the other Archon Quests in terms of story-telling and character development.
