Honkai: Star Rail features a turn-based game and different types of playstyles for players to explore. The Preservation Path characters in Honkai: Star Rail specializes in defensive support and taking the most damage in a Party. They are designed to have a huge amount of DEF or HP and are known as the natural tanks in the game. These characters can also taunt enemies and take the damage aggro in most scenarios.
Preservation characters mostly provide shield and damage reduction for the whole party. Some of them are also designed for crowd control which delays enemies and gains the team an advantage during battle. They can also provide a DEF increase in a team and also reduces the damage taken to the overall party.

Starting with the 5-star Preservation Light Cone, there are currently two options for players to use, the Moment of Victory is obtainable with the Warp System or players can buy it for 600 Undying Starlight in the shop. The other 5-star Preservation Light Cone on the other hand can be purchased through the Herta’s store with the Herta Bond which is obtainable by challenging the Simulated Universe.
Moment of Victory
“This Light Cone boosts the wearer’s defense by 24% and improves their accuracy in landing effective hits by 24%. However, it also increases the chance of the wearer being targeted by enemies. When the wearer is attacked, their defense is further increased by an additional 24% until the end of their turn.”
This is a solid choice for almost every Preservation character in general and even the best for most of them. This Light Cone provides a massive amount of DEF boost which can even double when the wearer is hit which is extremely easy to activate with most Preservation characters having high taunt value and aggro.
This is the best preservation Light Cone in the game right now with its high DEF stat and the passive that provides Effect Hit Rate and the chance increase for the wearer to be targeted by enemies even further is just an amazing addition. The best users of this Light Cone at the moment are Gepard and Fire Trailblazer.
Texture of Memories
“This Light Cone enhances the wearer’s Effect RES 8%. If the wearer is attacked without having a shield, they will gain a shield that equals 16% of their maximum health, lasting for 2 turns. This shield can only be activated once every 3 turns. If the wearer already has a shield when attacked, the damage they take will be reduced by 12%.”
This is a niche Light Cone choice at the moment as none of the current Preservation characters are scaling with the Effect RES or HP stat. The leaked Fu Xuan’s abilities can maximize this Light Cone and can even make use of this to activate the set bonus of the upcoming Relics for version 1.2. It is expected that this is a solid F2P option for Fu Xuan when she releases in the future.

This is a decent choice for any Preservation characters as it increases the DEF of the wearer by a decent amount. This Light Cone also features a Burn DoT to enemies which could potentially create amazing synergies with DoT characters. It is expected that the version 1.2 banner order will release two amazing DoT characters, which are Kafka and Luka. This Light Cone is expected to be the best in the slot for any Preservation Characters played in a DoT composition.
We are Wildfire
At the beginning of the battle, all allies receive an 8% reduction in damage taken for a duration of 5 turns. Simultaneously, all allies are instantly healed, with the amount of HP restored being 30% of the difference between their maximum HP and their current HP.
This is a good Light Cone if players are looking for a higher survivability support Light Cone. This is a great choice, especially in the Forgotten Hall where enemies deal a ton of damage and could potentially one-shot your characters if not built correctly. This Light Cone is also obtainable in the Forgotten Hall shop and is easy to Superimpose to the maximum level. This is a great choice for any Preservation characters that are used in the Forgotten Hall for more survivability.
Day One of My New Life
This Light Cone raises the wearer’s defense by 16%. Once the battle begins, it also provides an 8% damage resistance boost to all allies. It’s important to note that effects of the same type cannot be accumulated or stacked on top of each other.
This Light Cone is another amazing choice for any Preservation characters which provides a similar DEF boost to other Light Cones. This also increases the overall team’s effect RES which is extremely useful for the character to take less elemental damage during battle. This is the best Light Cone for March 7th as she can greatly benefit from the overall effect and passive of the Light Cone.
Landau’s Choice
The wearer is more likely to be attacked, but DMG taken is reduced by 16%. This Light Cone has a straightforward and useful effect. It is definitely a great choice for any Preservation characters since most of them are built with tank stats. Gepard and Fire Trailblazer can greatly maximize this Light Cone in most situations.
This is Me!
This item enhances the wearer’s defense by 16%. Additionally, when the wearer activates their Ultimate ability, the damage inflicted is increased by 60% of the wearer’s defense. However, this effect only applies once per enemy target.
This Light Cone is obtainable in the Nameless Honor. This is great for characters that scale with DEF and has a damaging Ultimate Ability. The DEF scaling of the Ultimate damage increase could potentially become a very useful buff for Preservation characters in the future. Currently, Fire Trailblazer is the best use of this Light Cone.
The current 3-star Light Cone is not ideal for most characters in the game. Since these Light Cones have lesser base stats, it is easily surpassed by Light Cones with higher rarity. The only good thing about these Light Cones is that they are easier to Superimpose which could potentially become useful for other characters that can greatly benefit from their effects. Currently, there are no characters that are designed to maximize the potential of these Light Cone choices and it is recommended to use the Light Cones that were mentioned above.
