League of Legends: Wild Rift Tristana Guide: Best Build, Runes and Gameplay Tips

The Yordle Gunner

League of Legends: Wild Rift‘s Tristana is a Marksman Champion who can be played on both mid and dragon lane and it is a late-game hyper carry that can damage enemies from a far distance. Tristana is an A-tier marksman pick. She is relatively difficult to play and master. Her abilities scale best with Ability Power but she performs and scales best on Attack Damage and uses her abilities for utilities and additional ‘firepower’. Like common marksmen, she depends mainly on her basic attacks to deal damage to enemies. In this guide, we will take a look at the best runes, spell, build, including tips and tricks to take over the match with Tristana in League of Legends Wild Rift.

We have previously discussed how to master playing with other LoL Wild Rift heroes like Amumu, Master Yi, Jinx, Braum, Dr.Mundo, Akali, Yasuo, Jax, Ashe, Varus, Darius, Singed. and Kennen. So make sure to check these hero guides as well. For now, let’s focus on Tristana.

Skill Analysis

Tristana is a champion with six skill sets of two passive and four active abilities. In this Tristana guide, let’s see what her abilities are in LoL Wild rift, and how you can bring out her full potential in your games.

Passive – Draw a Bead

passive

Tristana’s basic attack, Explosive Charge (Ability 3), and Buster Shot (Ultimate) attack ranges increase by 10 every time she levels up. Tristana’s passive is what makes her extremely potent during late games as she will be able to land attacks on enemy targets without being in enemy targets’ attack ranges. Giving her poking ability and range advantage over most marksmen.

Skill 1 – Rapid Fire (Active)

Tristana gains 30% additional Attack Speed for 5 seconds upon activation. Tristana fires her weapon rapidly, increasing her Attack Speed for a short time.

Skill 2 – Rocket Jump (Active)

skill 2

Tristana leaps to a target location, causing Magic Damage (60 + 50% of Ability Power) and slowing nearby enemies by 60% for 1 second. Enemy takedowns and fully charged Explosive Charge (Ability 3) detonation on champion reset this skill’s cooldown. This skill acts as a mobility tool for Tristana. Reset on cooldown makes Tristana very powerful in team fights as she can reposition herself constantly.

Note: Takedowns include assist and kills. Tristana has to deal at least 1 damage to the enemy to be considered into takedowns. It takes 4 basic attacks to fully charge an Explosive Charge (Ability 3)

Skill 3 – Explosive Charge (Passive/Active)

skill 3

Passive: Targets explode when killed by Tristana’s attack, dealing Magic Damage (40 + 25% of Ability Power) to enemy targets near Tristana. This is an excellent wave clear tool in Tristana’s tool kit. If managed well, able to poke enemies down with it or even cause AOE damage to the enemy team.

Active: Tristana places a bomb on an enemy or turret, dealing Physical Damage (60 + 50% of Attack Damage + 50% of Ability Power) to the enemy and enemies nearby the bomb. Tristana’s attacks charge the bomb, increasing the bomb’s damage by 30%, up to 4 charges. This is Tristana’s main damaging ability but has a high cooldown, thus has to be used considerably. Bombs explode upon full charge. The explosion radius is doubled if the bomb is placed on a turret.

Skill 4 (Ultimate) – Buster Shot (Active)

skill 4

Tristana fires a cannonball at an enemy, dealing Magic Damage (300 + 100% of Ability Power), and knocks the enemy back. This is an execution and a disengage ability for Tristana in her tool kit. If there are enemies near the Buster Shot target, they will be knocked back as well. This skill is considered a knock-up.

Skill Up Methods for Tristana

Level up Explosive Charges (Ability 3) at level 1, and then continue to level up Explosive Charges (Ability 3) until it’s maxed. After that, start leveling up Rapid Fire (Ability 1) followed by Rocket Jump (Ability 2). Level up Buster Shot (Ultimate) whenever available.

Best Runes Setup and Spells for Tristana in League of Legends: Wild Rift

Rune Setup

Wild Rift Tristana Guide

Fleet Footwork

Moving, attacking, and casting builds up Energy stacks. At 100 stacks, the next attack heals (15 – 85 depending on level + 30% of Attack Damage + 30% of Ability Power) and grants 20% increased Movement Speed for 1 second. For ranged champions, attacking minions only heal for 30% of the resultant healing amount.

This is a common rune equipped by marksman that focuses on basic attacking. The additional Movement Speed and healing are great help for marksman to sustain in lane and during teamfight. It also fits well with our item build which we will explore at later parts of this guide.

Triumph

Champion takedowns restore 10% of missing health. Tristana deals 3% additional damage to enemies below 35% health. Tristana’s playstyle is to execute enemies and escape. Thus, this is a rune that suits her very well as it will heal her significantly and allow her to deal more damage for execution.

Spirit Walker

Gain 50 max health and 20% slow resistance. The additional health is useful for marksmen in general during early phase. The slow resistance helps marksmen to kite and escape from enemies.

Sweet tooth

Honeyfruit healing is increased by 25% and taking fruits gives Tristana 20 gold. The 25% increased healing helps Tristana during laning phase, lowering the threat for the enemy to snowball over her and the additional gold helps to speed up her item growth.

Summoner’s Spells

Flash

Wild Rift Tristana Guide

Teleport a short distance forward or towards the aimed direction. This spell works well on Tristana to escape, reposition or chase her targets.

Barrier

Wild Rift Tristana Guide

Gain a shield that absorbs damage (115 – 465 depending on level) for 2 seconds. This spell is vital for marksmen to survive and try to deal maximum damage as they are usually the priority targets for the enemy and they have very low health and resistances.

Best Builds for Tristana in League of Legends: Wild Rift

Core Build

Wild Rift Tristana Guide

Infinity Edge

This is the bread and butter for basic attack focused marksmen and some of the fighters because of its passive, Infinity.

  • Critical Strikes deal 230% damage instead of 200%.
  • It also gives a +55 Attack Damage, +25% Critical Rate.

This is the main offensive item for marksmen. As Tristana depends heavily on his basic attack to deliver damage onto enemy champions, Crits are essential to her kit. Thus, this is a must-have item for her.

Gluttonous Greaves with Quicksilver Enchant

The Gluttonous Greaves gives Movement Speed, Physical and Magical Vamp.  This is essential for Tristana to gain additional mobility and heal herself during fights and laning. Additionally, with Quicksilver Enchant, Tristana will be able to cure herself of crowd control abilities, when she gets caught by enemies.

Statikk Shiv

+25% Critical Rate, +35% Attack Speed. Electric: +5% Movement Speed

  • Energized: Moving and Attacking builds Energy stacks. At full stacks, the next attack deals additional Magic Damage (50 – 120 depending on level) and activates all Energized effects.
  • Shiv Lightning: Energized attacks bounce up to 5 nearby enemies and each able to crit.

This stacks with our rune, Fleet Footwork, and helps Tristana to deal damage to multiple enemies at the same time. What is unique about this item is that it will allow Energized attacks to crit, i.e. Energized attacks from both Fleet Footwork and Statikk Shiv. In addition, it gives Attack Speed and Crit Rate which is essential for marksmen.

Rapid Firecannon

+25% Critical Rate, +35% Attack Speed. Hunter’s Swiftness: +5% Movement Speed

  • Energized: Moving and Attacking builds Energy stacks. At full stacks, the next attack deals additional Magic Damage (50 – 120 depending on level) and activates all Energized effects.
  • Firecannon Barrel: Energy stacks charge 25% faster and Energized attacks have an additional attack range (150). Melee attacks only gain 50 attacks range.

Similar to Statikk Shiv, it stacks! With Firecannon Barrel and Tristana’s passive, Draw A Bed, it will make Tristana a long-range sniper cannoneer! When stacked, Tristana’s Energized attack will deliver all 3 energized effects to the enemy target, dealing a massive amount of damage.

Bloodthirster

A common item built on marksmen and the item with the highest amount of Attack Damage. +65 Attack Damage. +15% Physical Vamp.

  • Bloodsworn: Physical Vamp that overheals Tristana and able to be accumulated as a shield that absorbs damage (40 – 320 fully charged). The shield decays when Tristana is out of combat for over 10 seconds.

This item acts as both a defensive and offensive item. It gives Tristana better survivability and dueling capability with the shield and Physical Vamp. and provides more Attack Damage.

League of Legends: Wild Rift Tristana Gameplay Tips

Tristana is a late-game marksman that is usually played in the Dragon Lane where careful positioning is vital to her success. There are several playstyles to play Dragon Lane. The usual is to trade, farm up, and find safe positions to deal damage to the enemy team while taking the least amount of damage. Our League of Legends: Wild Rift Tristana guide provides tips to play Tristana throughout the three phases of the game, Early Game, Mid Game, and Late Game.

Early Game

In the early game, Tristan should aim to do small trades and avoid all-in if possible. As she out scales most marksmen in the late game, she does not need to play aggressively for leads in the early phase. Make use of Tristana’s Ability 3, Explosive Charge passive and active, to win small trades during the laning phase. As there is a delay to Tristana’s Ability 2, Rocket Jump, work with a support toward out common ganking spots and use the ability to reposition as soon as spot any fishy and threatening activities in the surrounding!

Wild Rift Tristana Guide

If the enemy is pressuring near our own tower and has no escape tool, a high aggression ability rotation will be Explosive Charge (Ability 3), basic attack, Rocket Jump (Ability 2), basic attack, Rapid Fire (Ability 1), basic attack, Buster Shot (Ultimate) into our own turret. When the enemy dies, it should reset Tristana’s Rocket Jump to allow a safe return.

Mid Game

Mid Game (after the first turret or 2-3 items), follow support to join teamfights either to control objectives or visions. Always engage after ensuring all enemy threats are in vision or when there is an opportunity to delete the enemy and reset the jump.

During team fights or skirmishes, if a high threat enemy champion gets too close, use Ability 2, Rocket Jump first, then while in mid-air, use Ultimate, Buster Shot to immediately widen the gap between Tristana and the enemy threat. Focus on damaging the closest target unless there is an opportunity to instantly delete enemy priority targets (the carries).

Late Game

This is when Tristana becomes huge. A hyper carry. By level 12-15, with the item build, most of the time, Tristana can hit an enemy with the Energized attack and walk away, taking zero damage. Use this to your advantage, try landing your Energized attacks on main carries, it should get them somewhere less than 80% health, getting a massive advantage for your team.

When spotting an enemy below 50% health by itself, Tristana can aim to go in for the execution. A recommended skill rotation is, basic attack, Rocket Jump (Ability 2), while in mid-air, Explosive Charge (Ability 3), basic attack, Rapid Fire (Ability 1), basic attack twice, Buster Shot (Ultimate). It should delete the enemy off the map!

Additionally, in Wild Rift, Tristana forms strong pairs and serves as Best Combos with Alistar, Braum, and Soraka

Final Thoughts

Tristana is a very powerful, late-game hyper carry marksman who excels in both pushing and team fights. His kit is not suitable for focusing on snowballing in a lane and the early game phase. In essence, Tristana is still a marksman, preferably, she shouldn’t be going all in on assassinating the enemy.

With the above guide, you can easily practice Tristana in LoL Wild Rift. In essence, Tristana is still a tank, preferably, the team shouldn’t be depending on him as primary engage or sole control tank. That’s all for today’s Wild Rift Tristana Guide.
