Gameplay Overview
Let’s start with the gameplay overview of Vinland Tales: Viking Survival to help you better understand how the game works, what activities you can do, and what more to expect. The game isn’t that difficult and quickly grabs your attention, as you are immediately tasked with several objectives.
Right from the beginning, you will search the crashed boat for resources, rescue an imprisoned clanmate, and gather resources to build the town hall. Setting up the town hall or camp is your priority, and once you have rescued your clanmates, you can start building houses for everyone, with their help, with the ultimate goal of creating your own Viking Village.
The game features casual sandbox game mechanics and offers extensive village-building possibilities. You can chop down any tree you find, hunt various animals like rabbits and deer, and enjoy the freedom. One of the features you will surely like is that you don’t have to worry about health declining due to hunger, unlike many other survival games.
Here, you can replenish your health easily, which I enjoy, as managing your food consumption really slows down progress. In addition, you can also mine for stone and copper, manage your clanmates’ resource-refining jobs, and improve your small settlement with wells, and defense structures; eventually expanding it to a huge Viking stronghold.
In addition to the usual activities of exploring, surviving, and building your Viking village in the sandbox open world, you can also raid other real players’ Viking villages to acquire resources and show your dominance, which is not found in traditional survival games.
Vinland Tales: Viking Survival Basics
Great Hall
The Great Hall functions as the central building of your Viking settlement, much like a town hall. Your very first task in the game is to build the Great Hall, as it is essential for progressing. Without it, you cannot do much except collect resources, hunt animals, and explore the world.
To unlock more features and continue advancing, you will need to upgrade it periodically. Each upgrade unlocks new knowledge, which in turn helps you unlock new items to build or craft and increases the chance of bringing new settlers with better professions, along with other advantages.
Altar of Knowledge
Altar of Knowledge allows you to unlock many items and technologies that help progress and improve your village. To unlock different technologies, you must gather Lore, which can be earned by leveling up or exploring various Shrines scattered across the world. You will receive significant amounts of Lore at first when leveling up. However, after reaching certain levels, this bonus will decrease.
Meeting Spot
New settlers first arrive at the Meeting Point to ask for settlement in the Village. They come with various professions and, in exchange for a small fee, provide their skills and assistance once you accept them. To attract more settlers, however, you must maintain a Happiness level above 5 for your village.
If you have ever played Lego Fortnite or any games of this genre, you will have an idea of how this system works. Happiness levels increase with your ration consumption, and these levels rise during the winter, as your settlers require more ration to work.
Backpack
You can check all your belongings in the backpack, including your inventory, quest items, and gear. You can also check your character, get their info, and equip them with various items such as weapons, helmets, vests, bags, bracers, covers, boots, pickaxes, axes, water flasks, honey kegs, and shields. Additionally, you check your character’s stats, which includes:
- Character Level
- Health
- Damage
- Armor
- Speed
- Attack Speed
- Critical Strike Chance
- Critical Damage
- Block Amount
- Block Chance
- Gathering Speed
- Healing Rate

Vinland Tales: Viking Survival Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks
1. Explore the expansive Map thoroughly
Vinland Tales: Viking Survival offers a vast sandbox open world, where you can freely build your Viking Village. You can fast-travel by walking or running to different parts of the world to explore, hunt animals, or gather resources.
Explore as much as you can to discover new locations, animals, enemies, resources, and more. You can also raid enemy settlements to pillage valuable resources, though it can be challenging. Keep in mind that you have around 100 Energy for running, so use it wisely.
2. Make use of the Auto mode
One feature that you should take proper advantage of is the Auto mode, which allows your character to automatically hunt wild animals, fight enemies, chop trees, and more; saving you enough time to focus on other stuff. However, you should know that while auto mode handles all these actions, it doesn’t collect the resources; you will need to do it manually.
A smart and useful way to use this is by fast-traveling to different locations and letting your character clear out everything available there, while you collect the resource after it is done.
3. Complete quests and focus on fast progress
Your main priority should be to complete as many Story Quests and World Quests, as quickly as possible. This will help you unlock more content, including new knowledge, technologies, items, buildings, and different settlers. Prioritizing fast progress is important to gain an advantage over other players when you start raiding their strongholds in the future.
4. Build a proper stronghold
You should build your Village with a plan in mind rather than mindlessly placing random structures like chests, cooking pots, and chopping spots. A well-organized village not only looks better but also makes it easier to manage it. Even your defense structures such as scouting towers and palisades should be strategically placed to enhance your village’s defense and protection from raids and AI enemies.
5. Take advantage of Ads
You can earn free resources in the Shop by watching Ads, so take advantage of that. Moreover, you can also speed up the building or crafting processes by watching ads.
