Android games are coming to Windows PCs in 2022 through Google Play

Android games will now be playable on Windows from directly 2022!

Google Play Games, which has till now been a marketplace and major platform for mobile gaming, is now making its way to PC! When Windows 11 came out, one of the new and interesting features was compatibility with Android apps. And it looks like that was just the start and an entry point because soon, Android games will be playable on Windows PCs through a new official desktop application.

Google teased the app for the first time today, during The Games Award 2021 event. This fits in perfectly with their plans of establishing a cross-platform gaming experience, something that first surfaced during the Epic Games lawsuit. While the teaser was pretty short, it made itself pretty clear and in 2022, this new project will be rolling out on all PCs that are running Windows 10 and above (exact specification requirements haven’t been revealed yet).

A big step for mobile and PC gaming

This wasn’t all for mobile this year on The Games Award as Genshin Impact took the prize for the best game of the year on mobile and Candy Crush, Beatstar, My Friend Pedro, Marvel Future Revolution, and Rocket League Sideswipe were also featured in small segments.

All that being said, this is certainly very big for both Mobile and PC gaming as this makes crossplay and cross-progression across platforms easier. In a statement to The Verge, Greg Hartell, Google’s product director of games on Android and Google Play said- “Starting in 2022, players will be able to experience their favorite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PCs,”

This is definitely something to be eager about since mobile gamers will not have to use third-party emulators like Bluestacks to run Android mobile games on Windows PCs anymore. It would certainly be interesting to see this new venture development.
