- The devs are planning on diversifying the factory system.
- The game's blueprint sharing system is there to help with difficulty.
The development team behind Arknights: Endfield’s recently shared new insights about one of the game’s key features, the factory system. In their discussion, the team explained how this system plays an important role in gameplay, allowing players to manage production, resources, and base operations while exploring the world.
Arknights: Endfield is a spinoff of Hypergryph‘s 2019 tower defense game Arknights. It is a free-to-play action RPG with factory simulation features developed by Hypergryph with GRYPHLINE publishing.

What are the devs saying about the game’s factory system?
In a recent interview with gaming news outlet Automation West, the level designer RUA and lead planner Ryan were asked how they feel about the players’ feedback on the game’s factory system. They shared: “Looking at the current data, during the early stages of the game, a higher proportion of playtime is spent on exploration and factory building, with combat slightly lower.“
And as we progress ahead in the map, “the proportion of time spent in combat increases. But even then, factory building and exploration continue to account for a significant portion.”

“What particularly surprised us was the number of players who, from the very start of the game, would spend hours at a time immersed in building factories.”
The devs were then asked how they feel about the factory system, and the development team had this to say: “When it comes to the game designer team, most members have extensive gaming experience, so they were able to grasp the factory systems relatively quickly. That said, some members from other departments did initially struggle.“
And since the game was tested together as a team, “those who were more proficient would regularly share tips and techniques, and anyone having trouble could ask more knowledgeable members for help,” the devs added.
According to them, “It felt a bit like gradually getting hooked on a game after being invited by your friends (laughs). Playing together with someone really does make it easier to get into the game.”
The developers’ view on the blueprint system

When asked if it’s okay to use other players’ blueprints, the devs stated: “There’s absolutely no need to worry about that,” as the AIC (Automated Industry Complex) is very large in scale. Plus, “It includes not only base building, but also placing power lines, deploying mining machines, setting up ziplines, and more.”
They explained how, “there are many different ways to enjoy it. And even if you use Blueprints to skip part of the process, you can always go back to researching and designing your own systems later on. So, you’ll always enjoy that process whenever you feel like revisiting.
The future of factory building
Lastly, when they were asked what they had in mind with their future plans on the factory system, the devs revealed: “Endfield’s factory systems are not designed around a linear increase in difficulty.”
For instance, in areas like the “Valley IV and Wuling, industrial knowledge doesn’t merely accumulate in a straightforward way. Instead, as the story and exploration progress, different directions of development emerge.“

In other words, they noted that, “rather than simply becoming more complex, the range of experiences is broadened by expanding in diverse directions,” and gave an example like “even in Wuling, we plan to introduce new and interesting forms of factory gameplay in the future, so we hope players will look forward to trying them.”
Final thoughts
The interview was a great view on how the developers think about their game, as well as the players who will play their game. How they view the difficulty and variety as a much more complex and balanced act when doing. Let’s see how they diversify the upcoming future patches.
