How to build a strong team in Arknights: Endfield
In Arknights: Endfield, team building is one of the most important systems to understand early. Unlike the predecessor game Arknights, where unit placement and lane control are everything, Endfield focuses on real-time combat, positioning, and synergy between active party members. A well-balanced team will always outperform a group built around raw damage alone.

Each character in Endfield fills a specific combat role, and understanding these roles is the foundation of good team composition. Damage dealers are responsible for eliminating enemies quickly, but they are rarely effective on their own. Support characters provide healing, buffs, shields, or debuffs that keep the team alive and improve overall performance. Successful teams usually include a mix of these roles rather than focusing on only one.
Character Classes and how they work
The game will allow you to make a 4-member team. Each team member can be assigned to different classes in mind. All the classes with their benefits from Arknights arrive here, so old doctors will be familiar immediately with how the classes work, but for new players, worry not, I will guide them through them. The game has 6 different classes: Caster, Defender, Guard, Supporter, Striker, and Vanguard.
- Guard: Guards are skilled at making enemies Vulnerable and applying Physical Statuses. They are a DPS-based class.
- Vanguard: Vanguards are great at restoring Skill Points (SP) to help their teammates’ skill casting. They are support-based class.
- Caster: Casters are skilled at applying Arts Infliction and Arts Reaction. They are your DPS-based class.
- Defender: Defenders are highly durable. They are skilled at protecting and healing teammates while striking back at enemies. They are support-based class.
- Striker: Strikers exploit Physical or Arts effects inflicted by other Operators to unleash the decisive attack. They are a DPS-based class.
- Supporter: Supporters are skilled at applying various control effects that weaken the enemy. They buff and support their teammates.
A common beginner mistake is stacking multiple damage dealers in the same team and ignoring sustain or control. While this may work in early encounters, later enemies deal higher burst damage and apply pressure that pure DPS teams cannot handle.
Include at least one form of sustain, which can be either healing, shielding, or damage mitigation, as it greatly increases survivability and reduces the need for perfect dodging or constant character spamming skills to survive attacks.
Making a team with elemental damage statuses in mind
Elemental or damage-type coverage is another key factor to consider. Some enemies are resistant to certain damage types or punish specific playstyles. Having a team that can adapt through either mixed damage types or flexible skill kits prevents hard counters from stopping your progress. Versatile teams perform better in exploration and story content than highly specialized ones.

Like elements: Synergy between characters is just as important as individual strength. Some characters excel at grouping enemies, applying status effects, or weakening defenses, which allows your damage dealers to perform far better than they would alone. Building around complementary abilities with the same elements instead of individual power creates smoother combat and more consistent results.
The free characters team is also great for building
Free and early-game characters should not be underestimated. Endfield is designed so that non-gacha units can remain viable when used correctly. Understanding their kits and building teams around synergy allows free characters to compete with higher-rarity options, especially in early and mid-game content. My personal favorite is the Ice team, thanks to the free 5-star unit Snowshine and meta 6-star operator Last Rite from the beginner’s event banner.

The game has a confusing gacha system and very low pull income, so relying on gacha characters alone is not a feasible solution. Relying on your limited pulls will only lead to disappointment. With no proper Pity carryover system and a hard guarantee that needs 240 pulls in total, I will recommend only doing pulls when you have at least 120 pulls ready, and setting up the free operators the game provides.
Final Thoughts
Strong team building in Arknights: Endfield comes down to balance, synergy, and flexibility. A team that covers damage, sustain, control, and adaptability will handle far more situations than one built around power alone. Learning how your characters work together is far more important than chasing raw stats or rarity. Arknights Doctors already know this, so they can be at home when building teams.
