Brawl Stars ‘Time to Explain’ September 2024 Podcast: Permanent content vs time-limited events, Brawl Esports, Global Chat, and more

Story Highlights
  • Voice Chat won't be available anytime soon in Brawl Stars.
  • Developers are remodeling the old skins, but a timeline for completion is not available.
  • They are also focusing on balancing temporary and permanent content.

In March, Brawl Stars launched a new podcast called Time To Explain, where players, users, and content creators can ask any questions about the game. Supercell recently released a new episode of the Brawl Stars Time to Explain podcast in September 2024 addressing community questions, covering topics such as permanent content versus time-limited events, and the current state of Brawl esports, Global Chat, among others.

We have highlighted the key points from this podcast to help you grasp what you can expect in the future and the game developer’s insight on the current state of the game, its esports, and more.

Addressing the lack of permanent features currently in Brawl Stars

The time-limited events in Brawl Stars have been extremely popular like the Brawl Stars x Godzilla which was very good for the game, Classic Brawl was a great addition, recent Brawl Stars X Spongebob collaboration, and more, but the main downside is the lack of permanent features in the game.

The Brawl Stars developers stated that they are prioritizing temporary events as they generate more hype and help the game in the bigger scheme of things and also believe there are issues within the game and its system that need improvement.

While they have significant changes planned, they are currently offering a lot of temporary content and recognize the need to achieve a better balance. Over the next year, they will work on striking a better balance between permanent and temporary content.

Brawl Esports will be back in a grander manner in 2025 with an increased budget

In earlier episodes, the developers mentioned that the game is performing well financially. To that, a player inquired if we can anticipate an increased budget for Brawl Esports in 2025.

The developers confirmed that the short answer to that is yes, but the longer explanation is a bit more complicated. They also shared that last year was financially the worst year for Brawl Stars, yet hosting Brawl Esports this year reflects their commitment to the esports scene.

Fortunately, this year has been much better for them, and one of the developers mentioned that this progress will be apparent next year. While they didn’t provide much details, they assured that next year’s Brawl Esports will improve compared to this year. Additionally, they have preliminary plans for next year that are scheduled for September.

Why Global Chat won’t be returning anytime soon in Brawl Stars

The developers explained that implementing voice chat globally is quite complicated which is understandable in my opinion. In China, it is easier since there’s only one language to monitor and players can have only one account, which enhances security.

In contrast to that, the rest of the world faces challenges with multiple languages, added there is also a younger audience to protect, making it difficult to moderate. The same also happened with Clash of Clans as they removed the global chat due to toxicity and spam in different languages.

The developers mentioned that using AI is one option to address this issue, but they won’t roll out voice chat globally until they find an effective solution to moderate it, as it can become very toxic. I do believe a bit of toxicity can add to the competitive edge of the game making it more engaging and fun, but we also need to consider the younger audience, as some players can be quite toxic and rage a lot while losing. But the voice chat is a great feature which should be there.

Other questions, some stats, reworks, and changes

When asked how many new players have started playing the game in the past year, the developers responded that it’s above 50% currently. They also noted that many old players are coming back to the game. A follow-up question asked which country has the most players for Brawl Stars. The devs indicated that Turkey is one of the largest markets, while Germany leads in Europe.

Supercell also highlighted significant growth US and Japan, noting that the game has doubled its daily active users in those regions, and both Korea and Brazil still have many players. The developers acknowledged that Club League wasn’t quite what they hoped for and that Mega Pit serves as a decent compromise to it.

They emphasized the need for balance, which isn’t currently right but they are actively working on it. Supercell is also working on remodeling old skins gradually to bring them to the current game standard. However, they mentioned that they can’t provide a timeline for this, as it’s a secondary priority and will only be done when they have time.
