Supercell’s Clash Royale brings its Merge Tactics Season 9 update, and it can be called a big “roster shake-up” update. Alongside a brand-new Ruler, the update introduces Ruler Quests, new equipment, troop reworks, trait changes, and an entirely refreshed battle structure.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new season starting on May 27 and the features coming in Merge Tactics Season 9 until it runs till July 13, 2026.
Clash Royale Merge Tactics Season 9 Update explained
New Ruler: Tomb Queen
Season 9 introduces Tomb Queen as the newest Ruler, bringing an Undead-focused playstyle to the mode. Her ability, Regal Revival, automatically spawns a Tombstone at the start of battle.
The Tombstone summons Skeletons every few seconds, and once it is destroyed, Tomb Queen herself enters the fight. The building also counts toward the Undead Trait and levels up after spawning enough Skeletons during battle.
Like previous Rulers, Tomb Queen also comes with her own Starsteel Road reward track. Cosmetics this season include Fury Queen, Noir Queen, and the Harrowing Haunt confetti effect. Mummy Queen and Hieroglyphic Heroism cosmetics will also be available in the Ruler Cosmetic Shop.
As for the returning Ruler, we have Echo Sage coming back with this season.
Ruler Quests arrive in Merge Tactics
One of the biggest additions this season is the arrival of Ruler Quests. Every Ruler now gets unique in-battle objectives that reward us with Quest Orbs. These quests range from winning rounds quickly to summoning troops or activating traits during a match based on your milestones.

New Equipment
Season 9 also expands the equipment system with several new additions.

We also see trait-granting equipment this time around.
New Troops and Reworks
Season 9 refreshes the troop pool once again, introducing new faces while reworking older ones.

Another major gameplay change is that all troops now only have one Trait instead of multiple. On top of that, only 25 troops appear in the main battle pool, while 9 are exclusive to Quest Orbs.
New Traits and Trait Reworks
Season 9 introduces two completely new Traits.
