- CounterSide announces ending new content updates following April 29, 2026.
- The decision was announced following Head PD Hyunsoo Kim stepping down.
- Main story likely remains incomplete despite no official shutdown announcement yet.
CounterSide, the turn-based RPG from STUDIOBSIDE, has hit the end of the road as the game development has officially been confirmed to stop. The decision comes as the Head Producer steps down, with future updates set to be halted from April 29, 2026.
CounterSide is likely to end service with its main story incomplete
In the latest developer note, Head PD Hyunsoo Kim confirmed he will be stepping down from his role, marking a big change behind the scenes. Alongside this, the team has also confirmed that new content updates will be discontinued following the recent releases in April.
To be specific, after Main Stream Episode 15 on April 22 and the final Awakened employee on April 29, 2026, the game won’t be getting new story or content going forward. Some recurring content will also be stopped, although modes like Gauntlet, Danger Close, Exclusive Gear Challenge, and World Map Raid will remain.

The game won’t shut down immediately. Instead, it will move into a sort of maintenance phase, where existing content will keep rotating regularly. However, with no new story updates planned, it does mean the larger narrative that CounterSide was building likely won’t be fully completed.
If you’ve been around since the global launch in 2022, this will definitely feel disappointing. CounterSide built a strong following with its mix of urban fantasy storytelling, Live2D characters, and side-scrolling battles, so seeing updates come to a stop is definitely not something that was expected.
At the same time, it’s worth noting that the developers haven’t announced a full shutdown. The servers will continue running for now, and the game will remain playable.
That said, when a game stops receiving new content, it usually means things will wind down, like how it was with COD Warzone Mobile’s shutdown on April 17, 2026, after it was delisted from App Stores the previous year.
At the time of writing, the game is still available on App Stores and likely will continue that way. If you want to try out STUDIOBSIDE’s other projects, their newer title StarSavior is a good option.
