Metacore confirms the discontinuation of Everdale After much drama and consideration. Supercell’s peaceful city builder Everdale, once again after revival, will shut down. Today ie 18th September 2024, Metacore announced the shutdown on its LinkedIn post. However, when the game is taken off the server is not announced yet.
Metacore has failed to find a way to satisfy Everdale’s players in the long term
As Metacore announced the tough decision, it also shared the reasons behind taking such action. It said that the game failed to generate the expected market value. Despite the developer’s continuous effort to make it a fit for the market, Everdale could not reach to be a “sustainable” item. Thus, the game finally meets its end.
Mika Tammenkoski, the CEO of Metacore, said, “Since acquiring the game from Supercell in early 2023, we have strived to expand its world and better understand the market potential. Despite our efforts, we were unable to find a path to improve its market fit and make it a sustainable business.”
The developer tried their level best to understand the market demand and the audience. After the acquisition, Metacore took several approaches to make the game sustainable in the industry. It talked to the players, engaged the community, and other approaches to understanding the reason for its performance.
Post-Discontinuation, Everdale will return to Supercell’s inventory with the future unknown
Everdale was soft-launched by Supercell back in August 2021. The game was earlier published under a different name Valleys & Villages in late 2020. Later in October 2022, Supercell announced its shut down citing it didn’t match their expectations. However, Everdale made a return to production in 2023 following its takeover by Metacore.
Following this, Metacore has now handed back Everdale’s IP to Supercell. It’s unclear what Supercell will plan with the game given they had already given up on the game previously. The Everdale community, however, continues to hope that they can once again relax in their beloved valley someday.
