G-STAR 2021: Korea’s biggest games industry show to kick off on November 17

This year's event will be held offline

Whenever it comes to name the biggest game shows in the world, the most uttered names are Gamescom, ChinaJoy, TGS, etc. Apart from these, the Asia-Pacific games scene has a distinct event where big names from the gaming industry gather to present their products. The 2021 edition of the biggest Korean game show G-STAR is scheduled to debut at BEXCO, the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center, Busan, South Korea on November 17. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the B2B segment of G-STAR 2020 was entirely held online.

This games industry business show features activities for both gamers and game-makers i.e. developers, publishers, tool-makers, service companies, or even media representatives and investors, and is a fixture in the international calendar now. Now, the full schedule for the event is live and is available on the official website.

A booster to the fastest-growing APAC market

Korea has its place in one of the world’s top five gaming industry markets and continues to grow each year. The growth rate of their market was 8.7 in 2017-18. After the USA, China, and Japan, Korea holds the fourth biggest global game market share. The most interesting fact is, mobile titles are dominant here, with mobile gaming earning almost half of the total revenue among the platforms.

It’s the gateway to the Asia-Pacific region. The global industry has a $180 billion market where APAC represents the biggest and fastest-growing part. Without any doubt, G-STAR is a “friendly entry point” to the wider APAC markets of China, Japan, and SEA which collectively represent the very biggest cluster in the world.

What can fans expect

The event will be held in two parts, namely the B2B and B2C. As Korea is a suitable market and opens its business to all, companies can collaborate with other local or international developers to bring out new titles or fund the potential indies.

For the indie developers, it is the right place to introduce their games or service to the markets, to raise investment. or to look for new content. As the event comes with new games each year, fans can hope for some exclusives as well.

While there’s no official confirmation as of now, It is expected that Netmarble, NCsoft, and Pearl Abyss will be present at the event showcasing some of the ongoing or upcoming projects.
