I can not believe that GamingonPhone is now half a decade old. Time has flown by so quickly, it feels like just yesterday we were starting. Over the past five years, we’ve experienced so much. We’ve broken exclusive news, collaborated closely with game developers, publishers, and PR agencies, and accomplished many cool things. We’ve navigated major Google algorithm changes, yet here we are, still riding the wave and delivering the best all-around mobile games coverage for you.
Google messed up its search in 2023
The games media has faced significant challenges recently, not just from the evolving Google algorithm but also from the global economic downturn. As part of this industry, we have felt the impact both directly and indirectly.
The second half of 2023 was the start of a nightmare for most of the small to medium-sized publishers. Google’s massive change in its algorithm hit very hard to internet media, including us. The frequent changes and volatile traffic were a pain. A post by RetroDodo sums it up very well. The storm forced many media to shut down (such as Kotaku AU, The Loadout, etc), many are barely alive, and many changed their strategies. We are glad to survive this storm with 1.5 to 2 million monthly pageviews.
But there is good stuff too
Now let’s talk about good stuff. I have a lot to share here. With each passing year, our annual mobile game award show – GamingonPhone Awards is getting better and bigger. The 2023 Awards was a fantastic one, we collaborated with ZiMAD, an American game developer and publisher, to take the event to a new level of prestige and excitement. This year marks the 4th Annual Awards, and we have grand plans in collaboration with the community and industry experts to make it truly special. Stay tuned for more details on this unforgettable celebration of gaming excellence.
We started our first-ever B2B mobile games industry conference series, GamingonPhone Conference, this year. We conducted the first one in April 2024, in association with Gamelight, the leading rewarded marketing platform specializing in mobile games.
This one-day online conference attracted over 170 C-level executives and decision-makers from 103 companies and featured 37 speakers representing 49 countries. The success of the first GPC motivates us to make it even bigger and better this year. We aim to provide more networking opportunities and insightful discussions to drive the gaming industry forward.
This year we have also ramped up our social presence. We have doubled down on our Twitter followers and now it reaches over a million monthly impressions. Not only that, GamingonPhone is currently the most engaged mobile games media Twitter account. We expect to reach 15,000 Twitter followers by the end of 2024.
Our LinkedIn page growth and engagement are at an all-time peak. We started working on our LinkedIn presence earlier this year and the results are way beyond our expectations. On Instagram, our anime games-focused account is reaching 1.5 million monthly impressions.
What’s next?
In this upcoming year, we’ll continue the push the boundaries. We feel that together, we can continue to elevate the industry and celebrate the incredible work of developers, publishers, service providers, and gamers around the world. So if you see an opportunity for us to work together, please feel free to reach out!
