Sumeru is a brand-new region coming soon to Genshin Impact. Cyno and other Sumeru characters were hinted at before the game’s release in 2020, and are expected to appear in the Version 3.0 DLC. Recently, an artwork from an Redditor has also included the newest region in the Teyvat map. Meanwhile, while not being Sumeru natives, individuals like Lisa have links to the land. However, a few Sumeru characters may already be seen in Genshin Impact.
Genshin Impact characters: Lisa, Cyno and others
Lisa is the only Genshin Impact character, having direct links to Sumeru among the playable characters in the game. Before the events of the game, the Knights of Favonius’ Librarian studied in the Sumeru Academia, before returning to Mondstadt. Because there are presently no playable characters from Sumeru in Genshin Impact, Lisa has perhaps given the most indications, as to what players may anticipate from the new region’s culture, namely that intelligence is valued and academics are a top priority there.
Meanwhile, before Sumeru was officially launched, the Genshin Impact character Cyno was featured in an early preview of the game. He’s also a scholar at the Sumeru Academia, as portrayed in the manga, which can be downloaded for free on the game’s official website.
Character designs in Genshin Impact have been known to change, but as Cyno has featured in both a video and a manga, his Egyptian-style attire is likely to stay the same. This implies that Sumeru is based in a real-world country. In Genshin Impact, however, there are still a few Sumeru-based NPCs.
Genshin NPCs who are affiliated with Sumeru
Even beyond Lisa or Cyno, players might learn a lot about Sumeru by chatting to numerous NPCs in Genshin Impact, such as:
- Alrani, the archaeologist
- Anisa on Watatsumi Island in Inazuma
- Fadhlan in Liyue
- Hosseini, an exclusive NPC to the Energy Amplifier Initiation event.
- Kaushik, a researcher on Watasumi Island.
- Masudi, an author in Liyue.
- Parvaneh, an exclusive quest NPC in Inazuma.
- Sayid in Monstadt.
- Soraya, the researcher in Wangshu Inn.
The next Genshin Impact update is currently scheduled for Version 2.6. Before Inazuma and 2.0, the latest update was version 1.7. Therefore, the new Sumeru region and Genshin Impact 3.0 should be coming shortly. Although there are no playable characters from Sumeru at the moment, characters like Lisa and Cyno, as well as the other NPCs distributed across Liyue, Mondstadt, and Inazuma, provide additional information about the nation. Characters from Sumeru, such as Cyno, are unlikely to be playable in Genshin Impact until the 3.0 release.
