Three people were sentenced to four years of Jail in the court district of Xuhui in Shanghai for illegally producing and selling hacks and cheats of Genshin Impact. The three defendants were caught by the police earlier in Xuhui District in June 2021. According to judicial identification, the defendants had sold more than 40,000 plug-in cards of various types which approximately sums up a total of 2 million Yuan ($296,200).

As of the court decisions, the incidents of illegal producing and selling of cheats and hacks of Genshin Impact happened from October 2020 to May 2021 until HoYoverse reported to the district police to quickly investigate the case.
The court judgment says that the defendant named Zhou Mou had a negotiation with another defendant named Sun Mousi and others and then contacted the other defendant named Yao Moubing to obtain relevant data of the game Genshin Impact and which was later provided to Zhou Mou for developing and producing the Genshin’s Impact plug-in program.
The incident has caused serious damage to the fairness of Genshin Impact and interfered with the gaming experience of the fans. The game also incurred a huge amount of losses and thus resulted in a huge negative impact. The Shanghai Xuhui District People’s Procuratorate charged the criminal suspects with the crime of illegally controlling the computer information system program in August 2021. Recently the court in Xuhui District has sentenced them to prison terms ranging from one year and six months to four years.
