Honor of Kings has finally gotten a global launch on Android and iOS. The game gives continuous effort to resolve the problems often faced by the players. In doing so, it shares Listen Up, Dev! episodes where it tries to answer the common issues that are going on in the game. This time, in the second episode of Listen Up, Dev! discussed issues regarding the current matchmaking system of Honor of Kings.
Honor of Kings is concerned with unequal matchmaking and promises to provide a fair chance to all
Honor of Kings matchmaking system is adopting new mechanisms to deal with unequal matchmaking and smurfing. While no game is out of these issues, the MOBA is taking this matter more seriously. Some players often face the issue that while playing in low-tier, opponent players are overpowered compared to their tier.
This is also common in other games because some players have their secondary account and like to dominate the low-tier lobby. However, Honor of Kings developers know this fact and admit “smurfing“ is common in all competitive games. But they’re taking the issue seriously and will monitor these accounts. One way to do this is by checking if multiple accounts have been accessed from the same device. Besides, the game will also monitor the skill level of players whether match their current tier.
When the game becomes sure of “surfing”, it will move the player to a different matchmaking pool with players that have the same or more normal skill level. Honor of Kings admits that this problem won’t wash out completely but the game will do their best to remove the negative impact.
The issue, though, creates another concern. Some players are generally more skilled than others. Thus, the game will look to implement features that allow those players to move to a higher tier quickly, giving the others a fair chance in matches.
Premade teams with friends will be judged by an average of the overall team skill level
Other issues were addressed as well by the developers. For example, if a player is in the Diamond tier while playing with a friend who’s in the Gold tier, the matchmaking will be ensured in a way that both of them can have fun in the matches according to their skills.
Honor of Kings is also aware of this matter and tries to answer the concern. If a team consists of players with different tiers, the matchmaking will be based on their overall skill level. The system will also prioritize matchmaking players whose tiers are close to each other.
For duo matchmaking, the game will take the average of the two players’ tiers. But in trio mode, the game will list the players’ list ranks from the highest to the lowest, and measure them at 55%, 30%, and 15% respectively to get an even average for matchmaking. Besides, full-party matchmaking will be based on the highest tier player priority which is 70% of the team.
The game also looked into another issue concerning solo players matching with duo or trio. Honor of Kings developers said that solo players will only be matched with duo or trio players if matchmaking takes too long. Moreover, full-party players are almost always matched against other full-party teams, so solo players will never be matched against a full party.
Honor of Kings will continue fixing the current in-game issues and provide support
As the game tries to solve the resolutions raised by players, it points to the title’s effortless attempt to make the game reach more MOBA players and they get the top-notch experience and support at the same time.
While the second episode of Listen Up, Devs! was concerned with giving detailed feedback on Honor of Kings’ matchmaking system, the third episode will focus on cheat prevention. While the game will continue to do the same, the players can hope for a game that cares for their invested time into the title.
