Japanese game developers are now protesting mandates proposed by the West, with fans showing their support as well. They are frustrated by the pressure to comply with what they view as an unreasonable global agenda pushed by the UN in their games. The demand for uniformity in games suppresses creativity and individuality.
This issue is not limited to Japan; it is happening globally. Censorship and restrictions in gaming stifle creativity and offer little to no benefit to society as a whole. Even the recent global sensation, Black Myth: Wukong faced similar challenges when Screenrant rated it 6/10, citing it as “lacking in inclusivity and diversity“.
People are fed up with the constant promotion of woke themes in movies, series, and now in games as well. The West is now imposing this unreasonable global agenda on Japanese game developers as well.
The West has been continuously promoting the woke ideology in games
Japanese game developers often face pressure to make their games meet international standards set by groups like the UN, especially around woke topics like representation, and inclusivity. etc. Japanese Game Developers are now protesting against global compliance mandates amid growing Western censorship and regulations.
In a recent interview at the Tokyo Game Show 2024, former Shonen Jump Editor-in-Chief and former Dragon Ball editor, Torishima Kazuhiko, along with Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, discussed the frustrating impositions and regulations they have to follow. In the interview, Mr. Horii stated, “If there’s too much exposure, the age rating goes up. It means we won’t be able to sell it as an all-ages product.”
Mr. Torishima also said, “There’s a religious concept from the West, especially in America, that influences their approach to sex education, right? Their approach to compliance is narrow-minded. When selling manga in America, everything had to be categorized by age group. Because there’s a risk of lawsuits, the company also has to get insurance. Doing business with such a ridiculous country is frustrating. Because of that, Japan also gets negatively influenced.”
Even Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and X, is surprised to discover these impositions of the woke agenda. As someone who loves gaming a lot, it’s disappointing to have agendas pushed into every piece of content I consume. I believe absurd global agendas shouldn’t interfere with the gaming world; we should enjoy games for what it is. Not everything needs to be educational or centered on global issues.
