Dragon Quest, the famous action RPG franchise of Square Enix will see two of its titles, Dragon Quest: Champions and Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi shutting down their service by the end of July. The news regarding the shutdown of service was shared via the Twitter handles of the respective games.
The in-app purchases for both games have been suspended ahead of the shutdown of services
Dragon Quest Champions and Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi are not the first Dragon Quest titles to be shutting down their service. Their shutdown marks yet another Square Enix title closing the business so soon after the release. Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi, a puzzle title was announced at the 35th anniversary stream back in 2021. However, Dragon Quest Champions conducted a beta test in January 2023 and was available for pre-registrations in May 2023 ahead of a release in July 2023 which means it will barely complete just one year of operation.
It is quite surprising to see the game, Dragon Quest Champions, which was supposed to be the next big release since Dragon Quest Builders, close its operation after the release just one year later. In the past couple of Dragon Quest titles like Dragon Quest, The Adventure Of Dai, Dragon Quest Monsters Super Light, and Dragon Quest Tact which were also quite hyped up at the time of release have closed operations to make way for newer releases in the franchise.
Maybe this could be a sign of newer titles coming our way in the future or it could also be a sign of change in the leadership and approach of making future Dragon Quest titles. Only time will tell what is the case, as of now, Dragon Quest Champions and Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi are set to close their operations by the end of July.
Dragon Quest Champions and Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi will end their services on July 30 and July 31, 2024, respectively
The games, Dragon Quest Champions, and Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi will end their services on July 30 and July 31, 2024, respectively. Even though Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi operated for almost two years, Dragon Quest Champions barely completed a year, the game was never released outside of Japan.
