Konami removes Mason Greenwood from eFootball PES 2021 Mobile over rape allegations

The step follows EA's decision which was taken a week ago!

With the recent database update, Konami has removed Mason Greenwood from eFootball PES 2021 Mobile along with the console/PC editions of the game as well. The player was recently arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and has since been suspended from all forms of football. He will no longer feature for Manchester United F.C. until further notice, and many developers have taken the initiative to incorporate the change into their own games. EA Sports had earlier taken action, removing Mason Greenwood from FIFA Mobile, similar to how Konami has now stepped up to remove the accused player from eFootball PES 2021 Mobile.

As reported by Eurogamer, Konami has officially confirmed that Mason Greenwood has been removed from eFootball PES 2021 Mobile. A Konami spokesperson has stated that “Konami condemns violence of any kind. While police inquiries are ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

In light of the serious allegations made against Mason Greenwood, the player will be removed from our football titles until further notice. Specifically for PES 2021 on mobile, users cannot newly obtain the player, but existing owners are unaffected.

Mason Greenwood will no longer feature in football until further notice

On the 30th of January, 2022, the news had broken out across social media, where graphic images and audio clips of such a horrendous incident came to light. Manchester United had released an official statement saying that the player will no longer play or train with the club “until further notice”. Until then, Manchester United will not sell any merchandise labeled with Mason Greenwood on their official websites. Nike has also announced that the 20-year-old is “no longer a Nike athlete”, as reported by The Athletic.

Whilst also being unobtainable, the developers have also removed the player from the Manchester United preset teams. Those who still have the player item will be unaffected and will keep the player in their clubs. Konami is not the first set of developers to make the change either. Greenwood will no longer be a part of FIFA Mobile 22 for the foreseeable future, among other mobile football titles.

eFootball 2022 Mobile is on the horizon

In the meantime, Konami continues to work on their next big project titled “eFootball 2022 Mobile”. The game was scheduled to release towards the end of last year but was unfortunately delayed. The current release date is expected to be in Spring 2022. Therefore, not much time is there for fans to wait.
