- The Dark System is a popular MLBB community theory linked to frustrating ranked losing streaks.
- You can reduce frustrating rank sessions by taking breaks, playing with friends, and avoiding tilted gameplay.
- MLBB has never officially confirmed the Dark System, and it remains mostly a community speculation.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is currently one of the most popular MOBAs on mobile, catering to all kinds of players from complete beginners to the Immortal players. And in recent years, Dark System has been one of the most discussed topics in the community. And in this article, we’ll discuss what the Dark System in MLBB actually means, whether it is real or just a myth, and how you can avoid it.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Dark System: Overview
The Dark System is basically an MLBB community-made theory that emerged out of nowhere a few years back. So, many players, including even some of my friends, believe the matchmaking system intentionally pairs skilled players with new players or trolls after a few wins in Ranked to balance their progress.
And even when I was a solo grinder, I felt this after going on win streaks on many occasions. I mean, you’ll start winning, and suddenly, the very next match, you start matching with new players, trolls, or even AFKs who leave the game right from the start. And due to this, the term became very popular.

And it’s not even about uncooperative players; specific heroes like Zilong and Hanabi have also become memes in the community, with everyone calling them the main Dark System heroes. And these kinds of players are really annoying, as unlike beginners who want to learn, they won’t listen to anything you say.
So, after all these, you must be wondering if the Dark System is actually real in MLBB? Honestly speaking, there is no official confirmation from the devs, so it’s mostly community speculation that is now rising as almost everyone has experienced those losing streaks, especially in Epic, Legend, and early Mythic ranks.
Tips to stay safe or avoid MLBB’s speculated Dark System
Now, I must remind you that there’s no guaranteed way to avoid it, but you can still follow my tips to reduce the frustrations.
1. Take a solid break after losing a few matches

If you lose a match or two in a row due to bad teammates, you should just stop playing for some time. Because if you plan to continue, your winning streak will soon turn into a losing streak, and a small break can also help you reset your mindset. You can play Brawl during that time.
2. Play with friends or reliable teammates whenever possible
Considering solo queue is where most Dark System occurrences happen, you should try to team up with friends or good randoms to rank up smoothly. A five-man lobby is the best option, but you can even trio queue to win more matches.
3. Always give your best
No matter how bad your current match feels, you should always try to perform well to get the MVP. I mean, this way, you at least get more protection points, bonus star points if you make a comeback, and a chance of getting better teammates. Improving your own gameplay is the best way to rank up.
4. Don’t rank when titled

You should not rank at all if you are angry about anything, as you’ll probably make worse decisions, tilt more, and unknowingly throw the match away. I mean, once you’re angry, if a teammate doesn’t perform well, you’ll automatically assume them as part of the Dark System. So, instead, you should chill in Brawl, Classic, or Arcade modes like the new Tide Siege.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I feel like the Dark System is mostly a running joke or a community myth that sometimes feels very real during constant losing streaks. Even I have blamed Dark System when I was stuck in Legend a few years back, because getting three to four Hanabi mains in a row is not for the weak.
