Rainbow Six Mobile Dev Brief reveals Ranked overhaul, new features, improvements, and future roadmap

A clear roadmap for future updates!

Story Highlights
  • Monthly Operations and Protocol Events will bring regular new content and limited-time experiences.
  • Ranked mode gets a major overhaul with Legendary tier, better rewards, and longer seasons.
  • New features like 120 FPS, Site & Spawn Selection, and improved matchmaking are coming next season.

Ubisoft Nova has shared a new Dev Brief for Rainbow Six Mobile, providing a clearer picture of where this beloved tactical shooter is heading. The update covers everything from seasonal content plans and Ranked changes to matchmaking improvements, and more, while also addressing certain community concerns. So, without further ado, let me break it down for you!

Rainbow Six Mobile Monthly Operations will drive new content updates

Good news for you, as Rainbow Six Mobile is now transitioning to a more consistent content cycle with new Operations arriving in-game every month with fresh content. So, here’s what each operation will bring:

  • A new Operator.
  • Unique seasonal theme.
  • New Battle Pass.
  • New gameplay experiences.

Besides these, every alternative Operation will include a major Protocol Event, with some focusing on experimental gameplay, while others lean more into Siege lore. Rainbow is Magic event is a good example of what to expect, and the next Protocol event is already planned for June. So, you can look forward to:

  • A dedicated game mode.
  • Specific themed or reworked map.
  • Completing special missions.
  • Collecting event currency and packs from a free progression track.

Ranked mode is getting a major overhaul next season

So, they’re also making changes to Ranked mode to make it more competitive and rewarding. With that, a single season will now span two Operations, with each season bringing a Ranked Event with an exclusive Operator skin. Oh, you’ll also get new seasonal ladder rewards. And, here are the rank reset changes:

  • Above Gold – Reset to Gold.
  • Gold and Below – Your rank will remain unchanged.

Besides this, Ranked will now be split into two tiers, and they’re as follows:

  • Regular Ranked (Unranked to Silver)
    • This is especially designed for newer players.
    • Here, you get a better learning curve with easier progression.
  • Legendary Ranked (Gold to Master)
    • Now this new Legendary ranked offers a more competitive environment.
    • Focuses more on skill-based matchmaking.
    • You can enjoy higher-quality matches as you climb to better ranks.

Matchmaking improvements aim to fix unfair matches

So, the devs have finally taken notice of the ongoing issue with unfair matchmaking. And they’ve also given a few reasons for it, like how matchmaking is based on Rank, Skill rating (MMR), and Ping/connection, which is why the system first looks for players with better ping and then expands the search range.

And the matches can feel more unbalanced when you’re playing in full squads, queueing during off-peak hours, or are at extreme ranks like the lowest or highest. But don’t worry, as the team is now actively working on fixing it, and here’s what’s being improved:

  • You’ll get better team balancing.
  • A more smarter use of MMR and Ranked over time.
  • New players can enjoy improved ranked playlists.
  • Improved ranked progression.
  • You can use a protection system against unfair matches.
  • Regular weekly adjustments based on reviewing weekly matchmaking data.

Rainbow Six Mobile introduces new Site & Spawn Selection, Ping Wheel, and more

1. Site & Spawn Selection

So, we’re getting the new Site & Spawn Selection tactical system in the next season. Thanks to this, you can

  • Choose the spawn locations before each round as an Attacker.
  • Or vote on which objective site to play as a Defender.
  • Plus, won objectives won’t appear in the next vote.

2. Ping Wheel

Next up is the new Ping Wheel feature, designed to make communication easier without relying on voice chat. When you select a ping, it also highlights to give you better clarity. This feature is currently in development, and the first implementation includes:

All the gameplay and performance upgrades coming next season

I really appreciate the devs as they really care for the game and are bringing so many features and content to the game. And some of them are as follows:

  • Hit registration improvements: Better sync between client and server, and improved responsiveness.
  • 120 FPS Beta mode: Available for high-end devices with Ultra-grade chipset, 6GB+ of memory, and a 120 Hz display.
  • Private Match 1v1 Changes: Minimum players required is reduced to just 2, along with a no-bot fill option. You can also use the site and spawn selection here, though Secure Area mode will be temporarily removed while getting fixed.
  • Competitive map pool: So, a new map is coming directly to Ranked next season.
  • Settings 2.0: Improved Settings pages are coming in the next update with Cloud Saving, an option to reset settings to default, better organization with new tabs, and better control customization.
  • Latency and connection improvements: You can look forward to planned improvements like better ping stability, reduced disconnects during connection recovery, improved latency measurement over time, expanded network info and settings, and more.
  • Renown Economy: Starting next season, you’ll earn more Renown via Daily and Weekly challenges, and the total earning potential is also doubled.
  • Focus on Anti-Cheat and fair play: The team actively monitors and forces regular ban waves for cheaters.

Overall, this Dev Briefing just shows how much the team cares for the community and also their beloved game. And the future of Rainbow Six Mobile looks good to me after looking at this new roadmap.
