Playdigious and Thunder Lotus have teamed up to bring the comfortable and peaceful hand-drawn management adventure game, Spiritfarer to Netflix, which will be available exclusively on mobile. This year, iOS and Android users will be able to assist Stella, the new Spiritfarer, as she travels the world in her boat in search of spirit passengers to care for until they are ready to depart.
On the final day of Geeked Week 2022, the free five-day virtual festival honoring Netflix’s genre programs, films, and games, the announcement was made official. A release date was not revealed, but the timetable is expected soon.
Netflix members will be able to take the reins of Stella in Spiritfarer
Spiritfarer will be available to Netflix members with no commercials, no in-app purchases, and unlimited access as part of their membership benefits. In Spiritfarer, the player takes the reins of Stella, who takes over the Spiritfarer role for the mythological figure Charon. You collect spirits and resources while ferrying the spirits of the deceased to the afterlife, filling the needs of the spirits on board, and adding additions and accommodations as needed.
The game, which was created and published by Thunder Lotus Games for consoles and PC, was hailed for its gameplay, plot, and music, as well as how it dealt with loss and sadness. It was nominated for over 50 awards, and by the end of 2021, it had officially sold one million copies.
Netflix revealed its plans to develop a mobile gaming library in November 2021, launching the service with Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3: The Game before adding titles like Hextech Mayhem to its catalog. In the Game Showcase, Netflix unveiled a slew of new titles, including POINPY, Raji, a chess game based on The Queen’s Gambit, Lucky Luna, and Wild Things. Following the conclusion of the demonstration, Netflix stated that their mobile gaming platform would have around 50 titles in total.
