Tilting Point acquires Korea-based game developer AN Games

A sign of Tilting Point’s Commitment to Invest in the Korean Developer Ecosystem.

Following their successful partnership to build the massively multiplayer real-time strategy Sci-Fi mobile game Astrokings, leading free-to-play games publisher Tilting Point acquires a majority stake in Korea-based game developer AN Games. AN Games will remain independent, utilizing its experience in the strategy genre to create new games based on AAA IP.

Tilting Point’s publishing and amplification experience will be brought to AN Games’ full portfolio as a result of the acquisition. The company’s presence in Korea is immediately enhanced, and Tilting Point may benefit from AN Games’ publishing experience in important Asian countries like Korea and Japan.

Tilting Point acquires AN Games as part of its progressive publishing model

Tilting Point has made its first acquisition since raising $235 million in July 2021 to accelerate its progressive publishing model, which includes signing more developers in live publishing, co-developing games with premium IP, acquiring top studios via its platform, and expanding its growing global presence.

AN Games has more than two decades of expertise developing Sci-Fi strategy games that appeal to both Eastern and Western audiences. AstroNest: The Beginning and Astrokings are two of the company’s current live games, as is Astro & Girls, which was exclusively available in Japan and Taiwan.

In January 2020, the developer formed a Live Publishing collaboration with Tilting Point to expand Astrokings, which has been a resounding success. The incorporation of MGM’s Stargate property, which was a highlight of the relationship, resulted in the game’s installs increasing by over 4X during the campaigns.

AN Games’ team has mastered the 4X strategy genre over the past twenty years, and built both an extremely talented team and an engine which is ideal for integrating IPs. The acquisition of AN Games is proof of our Progressive Publishing model, where we successfully grew Astrokings, then merged operations so that we can pursue co-development opportunities and further enhance our publishing across Asia to reach new players.

The acquisition opens new opportunities for both Tilting Point and AN Games

Tilting Point’s Progressive Publishing strategy has generated an opportunity for developers, as evidenced by the acquisition of AN Games. Through its developer network, the Tilting Point platform advances ties with established partners, accelerating and amplifying developer success. AN Games’ whole portfolio will benefit from this acquisition, including user acquisition scaling, live operations enhancement, IP integrations, and platform extension.

Tilting Point will be able to introduce more titles from its library to Asia thanks to AN Games’ publishing skills in the region. Tilting Point already has a presence in Korea, with a Seoul office and a track record of success in bringing Eastern games to Western markets through partnerships with creators such as Clegames for Reign of Empires, Joycity for Gunship Battle, and Storytaco. inc for Dangerous Fellows, among others.

“Arriving at a co-development stage has been a natural progression of our relationship,” said Hwan-gi Kim, CEO of AN Games. “We admire and trust the Tilting Point expertise and look forward to being able to grow our studio’s impact even further.”

Tilting Points continues to strengthen its portfolio

Tilting Point has consistently accelerated success for mobile game developers, scaling their games through UA funding and management, app store optimization (ASO), ad monetization, platform deployment, and more, before collaborating with existing partners to deepen relationships through co-development and mergers and acquisitions.

Other recent additions to Tilting Point’s portfolio include mobile games and assets from Playtech plc., including the San Diego-based FTX Games, hit titles Star Trek: Timelines and TerraGenesis, and LTV Tech Platform Gondola.
