Free Fire’s iconic tournament set to return in May 2021!

Garena has announced the Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore (FFWS 2021 SG), which will feature a $2,000,000 prize pool. It will be held offline at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. This marks the beginning of a return to normalcy for Free Fire international esports, after tournaments in 2020 were held online. The World Series is Free Fire’s largest and most iconic esports tournament. The inaugural Free Fire World Series 2019 Rio was watched by 2 million+ concurrent online viewers at its peak. This was then the world record high for a mobile esports tournament, according to Esports Charts.

Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore (FFWS 2021 SG): Format and Schedule

The FFWS 2021 SG will continue to host the Play-ins on May 22 and the Finals will be rescheduled to May 30, 2021, from 6:30 pm IST. Later, the dates were shifted to accommodate the global pandemic situation. Earlier, the Finals were supposed to take place on the 29th of May, 2021. The rescheduling has been done to accommodate the global pandemic situation. Garena places its topmost priority on the safety of everyone involved.

Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore: Teams from the Play-Ins and Finals

The tournament will bring to Singapore 22 teams from across 14 regions to compete for the title of being the Free Fire world champion. They will also get a slice of the $2,000,000 prize pool, one of the highest in mobile game esports. The Play-Ins stage of the FFWS 2021 SG will feature 9 teams who placed either first or second in their regional-level tournament.

The top 3 teams from the Play-ins will then join the top 9 seeds from each regional-level tournament in the Finals.

The Play-Ins and Finals will follow the same competitive format. The teams will battle over 6 rounds across all 3 maps, which are Bermuda, Purgatory, and Kalahari. Points will be awarded based on round ranking and the number of kills.

Garena will ensure that all activities are in line with prevailing public health protocols and travel policies.

In a nutshell, Free Fire’s global popularity continues to grow with this tournament. It was the most downloaded mobile game worldwide in 2020 across both the iOS App and Google Play stores. It was the second consecutive year that Free Fire topped the ranking.

How to watch

The matches will be broadcast on Facebook and YouTube. It will be accompanied by the commentary which will take place in 12 languages. These are namely Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, Bengali, English, Hindi, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese.

Teams from FFIC 2021 Spring won’t represent India at FFWS 2021 SG

The tournament will be not allowing the Indian teams to participate and are completely excluded from traveling for the same. This news does come as a shocker for Indian Esports fans.
