As the year comes to an end, Garena Free Fire has retained the top spot by being the most downloaded mobile game of 2020, on both the Play Store and App store combined, according to the Sensor Tower reports. Free Fire is a very popular mobile game based on the Battle Royale genre. It boasts of a very massively active player base extensively spread across Brazil, South Asia, and some other European regions. The game has over 500M+ downloads in the Play Store itself.
Free Fire becomes the most downloaded mobile game of 2020
The game had enough competition, especially with 2020 having a lot of new launches too. It had to beat several other top-performing mobile games of the year to reclaim the title. Among the usual competitors lined up against this game were PUBG Mobile and Subway Surfers. Even, Among Us, a game that pushed its way out of obscurity this year to win the hearts of fans and critics alike couldn’t beat Free Fire in terms of most downloads. Though, as much of a breakthrough year Among Us had, it was a tad bit disappointing not to find Call of Duty: Mobile among the top contenders out there for the mentioned title.
What gets going for Free Fire?
Free Fire has a knack for being that one game that just keeps on improving itself year after year to appeal to the ever so changing trends of the mobile industry. This year the game was all about consistently rolling out new content in the form of high-profile collaborations with World Renown Personalities such as DJ Alok, DJ KSHMR, and even the sports sensation Cristiano Ronaldo himself, who is now also the Global Ambassador of the game.
Moreover, the Esports scenario associated with this game took giant leaps this year, as it accumulated the most concurrent and overall views through the official local and international tournaments on YouTube. The game even won this year’s ‘Best Mobile E-Sports Game’ title at the Game Awards event.
All these factors lead to a concrete understanding of how Free Fire manages to be a very well established game in the mobile gaming industry. To be honest, in terms of annual views it even beat most of the Console and PC games as well, so it’s not wrong to say the game is making its presence felt within the PC and Console Gaming Industry as well.
