Genshin Impact: The complete Yelan Constellations Guide and Tips

Constellations for Yelan!

Valley Orchid Yelan is an event-exclusive 5* bow-wielding character in Genshin Impact which was released back in version 2.7. Prior to her release, she was compared with Xingqiu but over time players have realized that while she has some similarities with him, she is also a rather unique character on her own. Yelan has one of the best constellations in all of Genshin Impact, and this article will break down each of them and explain their usefulness.

Genshin Impact: Constellations for Yelan

C6. Winner Takes AllAfter using Depth-Clarion Dice, Yelan will enter the Mastermind state. In this state, all of Yelan’s Normal Attacks will be special Breakthrough Barbs. These Breakthrough Barbs will have similar abilities to normal ones and the DMG dealt will be considered Charged Attack DMG, dealing 156% of a normal Breakthrough Barb’s DMG. The Mastermind state lasts the 20s and will be cleared after Yelan fires 5 arrows.

Genshin Impact: Constellations breakdown for Yelan

In this guide, we will do a complete breakdown of Yelan Constellations in Genshin Impact and how they work.

C1: Enter the Plotters

This constellation helps with her energy requirements. Although her skill does a pretty respectable amount of DMG on its own, having to cast it multiple times increases the length of rotations. The extra charge on her skill makes overworld exploration easier.

  • DPS increase from C0: around 20%

C2: Taking All Comers

The main reason Yelan cannot be used as a substitute for Xinqiu in Vaporise teams is that her Hydro application is lower. C2 fixes that. The extra Hydro arrow fired has a separate ICD from the coordinated Hydro arrows from her burst, therefore it increases her Hydro application rate and helps her keep up with the Pyro application of Hu Tao or Xiangling. From C2 onwards, Yelan can be used instead of Xinqiu in Vaporise teams.

  • DPS increase from C1: around 24%
  • DPS increase from C0: around 40-50%

C3: Beware the Trickster’s Dice

A maximum of Yelan’s DMG comes from her burst, and this constellation adds three levels to it. More DMG per burst arrow. Please note that the extra Hydro arrows from C2 are not affected by this talent level, it always has a fixed scaling of 14% max HP.

  • DPS increase from C2: around 13%
  • DPS increase from C0: around 60%

C4: Bait-and-Switch

This constellation is basically an HP version of Bennet’s ATK buff. So far, Yelan and Hu Tao are the DMG-oriented characters who benefit from an HP buff. Ayato also benefits from this constellation, having a slight HP scaling. Kokomi and Zhongli are also HP-scaling characters but they do not need any external buffs since the HP built on them is sufficient enough. At the moment, this constellation benefits very few characters. But at the rate Hoyoverse is releasing HP scaling characters, it would not be too long until this constellation becomes extremely valuable.

  • DPS increase from C3: around 4-15%
  • DPS increase from C0: around 80-90%

C5: Dealer’s Sleight

Yelan’s skill does a pretty respectable amount of DMG, so three additional levels are a welcome boost. The best way to take advantage of this constellation is by Vaporising her skill.

  • DPS increase from C4: around 2%
  • DPS increase from C0: around 92%

C6: Winner Takes All

This is Yelan’s best constellation, no surprises there. The way it works is:

  • The first 5 normal attacks after casting her burst will be special Breakthrough Barbs
  • These are considered as charged ATK DMG and they do 156% of a  Breakthrough Barb’s DMG

Few important things to note:

  • The special Breakthrough Barb’s DMG scales off normal attack talent level
  • They are affected by her Ascension 4 ramping buff

There are two ways these 5 special Breakthrough Barbs can be utilized. They can be fired immediately after casting her burst if speedrunning. If fighting a boss with high HP, the special Breakthrough Barbs can be saved until the end of her burst duration to capitalize off the ramping buff. If the special Breakthrough Barbs are fired at the end of the burst duration, they will gain a DMG bonus of above 30%. Rotate through other teammates’ abilities in the meantime.

  • DPS increase from C5: around 25%
  • DPS increase from C0: around 150%

Final thoughts

For most 5* characters released recently, C2 is the best early constellation and Yelan is no exception. Unlike most other 5* characters, almost all of Yelan’s constellations are great. C1 or C2 is an ideal stopping point for free-to-plays but for whales, getting her remaining constellations are well worth it.

Some characters like Raiden Shogun’s constellations fall in value after C3, becoming completely useless, while some characters like Alhaitham’s constellations alternate between super useful and rather useless. Yelan’s constellations are amazing for both whales and free-to-plays since she does not require them to function but only becomes stronger with each constellation unlocked.
