The Version 4.0 update of Honkai: Star Rail releases the newest 5-star character, Yao Guang. She is a 5-Star Physical Elation support character. This Honkai: Star Rail Yao Guang Build Guide will help you maximise her abilities by providing a detailed breakdown of her skills and recommending the optimal configurations to enhance her performance.

Elation Mechanisms and Yao Guang Gameplay

To understand Yao Guang, we first need to understand the New Elation Path. Here is a quick explanation about the Elation mechanism:

Elation Mechanisms

If you use any Elation character on your team, you’ll notice mask icons with numbers upon entering combat. One on the skill points bar, one on the action bar, and one near each Elation character’s HP bar. Elation characters can deal extra damage; the action bar shows us when the elation damage mechanism will happen, and we will get extra damage. This mechanism is called Aha Instant.

Only Elation characters can trigger Aha Instant. We can’t buff Aha Instant with characters’ HP, ATK, DEF, and Damage Bonus until any character can convert this main stat into Elation stat. Those mask icons always display a number, and the elation damage depends on it. Those mask icon numbers are known as Punchline numbers. More punchline numbers mean more damage.

Each elation character has their unique Elation skill, and with that, they can provide a buff or deal damage. Every elation character will use their Elation skill in a predetermined order based on their Participant ID, which we can check by tapping their Elation Skill.

After characters use their Elation Skill, the punchline numbers on the skill points bar and on the action bar reset, but each Elation character’s HP bar punchline numbers will increase. When Elation characters’ own Punchline number increases, then they enter a state called Certified Banger. It can buff each of our Elation characters. They last for two turns, but they can stack and have independent durations.

Yao Guang Gameplay

Her kit revolves around deploying a Zone that amplifies allies’ Elation stats, triggering Aha Instants for ultimate damage windows, and providing All-Type RES Penetration. With her ultimate hands, Aha, an extra action, you can give the team All-Type RES penetration. Here is a detailed explanation of her Skill, Technique, Ultimate, Talent, Elation Skill, and Passive Skills.

Skill

You deploy a zone with her skill for 3 turns that increases all allies’ Elation damage by 20% based on her own Elation stat. Elation is a new stat that is not obtainable from Relics and Ornaments. Furthermore, if you use her normal attack or skill during this period, she gains 3 Punchline.

Technique

After using the technique, you’ll automatically trigger her skill at the start of the battle without consuming skill points.

Ultimate

You immediately gains 5 Punchline after using Ultimate and then increases All-Type RES penetration by 20% for allies, which lasts for 3 rounds. Then it instantly triggers an Aha Instant with a fixed amount of 20, but it will not reset your Punchline points.

Talent

When Yao Guang is buffed by Certified Banger, you can deal coordinated Elation damage when allies use an attack. If allies consume skill points, she deals an extra damage.

Elation Skill

Inflicts an 3 turn debuff on all enemies, and they take 16% increase damage and deals 100% physical damage to all enemies. Then deals 5 instances of 20% physical elation damage to a random enemy.

Passive Skills

  • Amaze in Grace: If Yao Guang has 120 SPD, then her Elation increases by 30%. For every 1 SPD she has after reaching 120 SPD, her Elation increases by +1 up to 320 SPD. Her main stat Priority is SPD.
  • Poised and Stated: Increase her Crit Damage by 60% after using her Elation skill.
  • Felicity Ensemble: When Yap Guang gets Certified Banger, its duration increases by 1 round.

  • Body: CRIT DMG% or CRIT Rate%

This relic is her best in-slot set. It provides SPD, which is a must-needed stat for her, and also provides Crit rate and team-wide buff for Elation characters.

Planar Ornaments

Planar OrnamentsEffects
Lushaka, the Sunken Seas2-Pc: Increases the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 5%. If the wearer is not the first character in the team lineup, increase the ATK of the first character by 12%.

When She Decided to See (5*)Yao Guang’s signature Light Cone is absolutely her best option, which buffs the wearer and also provides buffs for your team.

While the wearer has “Great Fortune,” all allies’ CRIT Rate increases by 10%, CRIT DMG increases by 30%, and the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate increases by 12%.

Best Team Comps for Yao Guang in Honkai: Star Rail

Yao Guang’s best team comps revolve around Elation-focused teams. Her kit is designed to enable Elation DPS characters through Zone deployment, Punchline generation, and Aha Instant.

Sparxie/Yao Guang/Sparkle/Dan Heng Permansor Terrae

It’s her best team in Honkai: Star Rail. For unlocking Yao Guang’s full potential, it’s always recommended to use her with another Elation character. At this moment, Sparxie is the only Elation character that can unlock her full potential, but she will be released in the second half of version 4.0.

In this team, Sparxie is our main DPS. During Aha Instant, she unleashes a multi-hit Fire Elation DMG that deals massive damage. Yao Guang is our buffer who will deploy her Zone to increase team Elation damage, generate Punchlines through Basic ATKs and Skills, and trigger Aha Instant with Ultimate. She also deals follow-up attacks with her passive.

Sparkle is our second buffer in this team. She provides CRIT DMG buffs, 50% action advance, and recovers 6 Skill Points with her Ultimate. Dan Heng Permansor Terrae is our sustain in this team who provides shield for the team and also deals damage with follow-up attacks.

Archer/Yao Guang/Sparkle/Dan Heng Permansor Terrae

It’s not an Elation-focused team, but it’s another good team for Yao Guang. Yao Guang, Sparkle, and Dan Heng Permansor Terrae roles are the same in this team. Archer is the main DPS in this team because he uses Skill Points to deal damage.

Is Yao Guang worth Pulling in Honkai: Star Rail

She is an overpowered buffer for an Elation-focused team. At this moment, she can buff Sparxie teams. But with the upcoming Elation character releases, her pull value will increase gradually. If you are planning to pull upcoming Elation characters, then she is a must-pull character for your account.
