The dual grass and ghost type archer-owl is only the 2nd Grass-type starter introduced to Pokemon Unite MOBA. This Generation VII starter is the final form of the fan-favorite grass starter Rowlet from that generation. Decidueye is A-tier Ranged-Attacker Pokemon which from the very first stage is an expert in dealing with ranged attacks. It has got both Grass and Ghost-type moves in its pocket. In this guide, we will let you know all about Decidueye in Pokémon Unite, his abilities, best items, and team comps.
Previously, we have discussed how to master playing with other Pokémons like Pikachu, Mamoswine, Eldegoss, Zeraora, Blissey, Charizard, Snorlax, and Tsareena. So make sure to check those guides as well. For now, let’s focus on how to play with Decidueye from its Rowlet stage.
Decidueye: In-game cost
Players who want to have this Grass-type starter in their squad would have to spend either 10000 Aeos coins or 575 Aeos gems in the Unite Battle Committee. Also, a Star Cloak Style holowear is available for 400 gems, for the owl.
Decidueye Stats and Evolution
|1st Evolution||2nd Evolution||Final Evolution|
Pokémon Unite Decidueye movesets
Decidueye is arguably the best ranged-attacker in the game. One of the main reasons for the statement is that other ranged Pokemons merely have ranged attacks, but Decidueye’s ability ‘Long Reach’ makes it more powerful, the farther it is from its target. It is one of those Pokemon which evolve comparatively earlier in the game. Rowlet evolves into Dartrix at Level 4, which then evolves into Decidueye at Level 7.
The basic attack, which is used by all 3 of Rowlet, Dartrix, and Decidueye, makes the user throw quills towards the opponent. The speed of basic attack increases after one hit. Also, with every third consecutive hit, the basic attack becomes a boosted one, which allows Decidueye to fire a few more quills together. However, when the attack is boosted, damage dealt by each quill becomes lower.
Passive – Long Reach
This ability perhaps makes Decidueye an ‘ahead-of-the-curve Ranged-Attacker to play with. It makes sure the farther Decidueye is from its target, the more damage it deals. This ability is applicable for all of the Pokemon’s available moves.
Ability 1 – Leafage
A preliminary grass-type move, available at level 1 as Rowlet. The user pelts bunch of leaves towards the opponent dealing damage while using this move. Also, the user’s Attack and basic attack speed increase shortly after using this move.
Ability choices at Level 7
At level 5, Rowlet evolves into Dartrix and after two more levels, i.e., at level 7, Leafage can be upgraded to either of these two moves. Being a dual grass and ghost type, Decidueye’s moves are also of either type.
|Razor Leaf||Spirit Shackle|
|A grass-type ‘buff’ move that summons whirling leaves around the user. The user’s Attack and basic attack speed get increased for a short time after using this move. Also, the Pokemon’s basic attack can hence attack more targets at the same time after using Razor Leaf.||One of Decidueye’s most popular Ghost-type moves sees the pokemon recharge the quills before firing it. When the quill is charged more, the damage dealt is more. Also, while firing, if the quill is charged maximum, it stitches the receiver Pokemon’s shadow to the ground. The recipient Pokemon would then receive damage if it moves away to a set distance from that place and it would also reduce the opponent Pokemon’s speed.|
|Upgrade: Increases the user’s basic attack damage, the higher the target Pokemon’s HP is.||Upgrade: The lower the opponent’s remaining HP, the more the damage.|
Ability 2 – Astonish
This Ghost-type move deals damage to the opposing Pokemon and reduces their speed for a short time. It may be selected at Level 1 or it eventually is activated at Level 3 and it surely hits the opponent.
Ability Choices at Level 8
After Dartrix evolves into Decidueye, Ability move may be upgraded into either of a grass-type or a ghost-type move.
|Leaf Storm||Shadow Sneak|
|This grass-type move hits the opponent with a tempest of sharp leaves, dealing damage. After it hits the opponent, the move also reduces the Pokemon’s peed for a while. When hit from a point-blank range, the move shoves the opponent back to a certain distance.||This move, just like Astonish, is sure to hit any opponent. This ghost-type move creates a shadow that takes hold of an opponent in the area of effect, dealing damage to it, decreasing its movement speed and Defense for a short time. Besides, it also increases Decidueye’s movement speed for a while.|
|Upgrade: Increases the time span the movement speed of the opposing Pokemon remains decreased.||Upgrade: Further decreases defense.|
Unite Move – Nock Nock
Nock Nock makes Decidueye fire repeated quills in a row towards the desired direction, dealing damage to the opponent. The last quill fired is particularly larger, and deals heavy damage to the opponents it hits. This move deals increased damage if the opposing Pokemon’s HP is low. However, although while using this move Decidueye becomes immune to hindrances, it becomes unable to move.
Best items for Decidueye in Pokemon Unite
Further in this guide, we will discuss the best-held items for Decidueye in Pokémon Unite, as well as its best battle item.
Best held Items
|Item||Why it is useful|
|Rapid Fire Scarf||Increases Basic attack speed and damage after every 3rd basic attack hit.|
|Muscle Band||Considering Decidueye’s Razor Leaf move, this held item can be pretty good for Decidueye. Muscle Band increases the damage inflicted to a certain percentage whenever a basic attack hits. Imagine the Razor Leaf move already boosting the basic attacks, and then comes the utility of this held item.|
|Scope Lens||It would be a must-recommend for any attacking Pokemon. This held item increases the critical hit rate and damage based on its own level.|
Based on gameplay and suggestions from many sources, these 3 may be concluded as the best item build for Decidueye. However, players can also try the following builds.
- Attack Weight, Muscle Band, Score Shield
- Scope Lens, Rapid Fire Scarf, Attack Weight
- Muscle Band, Scope Lens, Weakness Policy
Best Battle Items
- Eject Button- Decidueye lacks any sort of dash-type moves, hence an eject button may come in handy while retreating, or knocking out retreating opponents.
- X-Attack- Decidueye’s endurance is pretty low and hence X-Attack can sometimes be pretty useful while dealing massive damage in desperate times.
- X-Speed– Can help Decidueye to escape from critical positions.
Best Emblem Build
- White x4
- Brown x6
Note that, the emblem colour and stats here are suggestions only. The builds are still viable even without the suggested emblems. However, try to maintain the positive stats as much as possible, by trying other combinations too.
Pokemon Unite Decidueye Gameplay Tips
Decidueye once at its full final evolutionary form, is one of the best attackers available in the game. Its ranged attacks make it one of the fearful forces to deal with in the game. However, remember that just like any other Pokemon, attacking with a lone Decidueye would bear no fruit. Try to move the ranged attacker alongside a defender like Mamoswine or Blastoise for the best results. A melee-type Pokemon works as the best partner, as Decidueye can deal damage from a distance. Our Pokémon Unite Decidueye guide includes the perfect game plan for the early and late game during Unite battles.
Decidueye’s endurance is quite on the lower side, it is evident Rowlet’s endurance would be low too. Hence, it would be wise to attack from a distance, especially concentrating on farming first. Rowlet and Dartrix’s initial moves are quite weak, so focus upon early farming and building up your levels. At Level 1, choose Leafage instead of Astonish, because it deals more damage and can increase Rowlet’s attack and attack speed. Also, remember that Rowlet’s attacks would be more effective the farther it is from its enemy. Hence, at its initial stages, it is better to hunt wild Pokemons and then accompanied by melee defenders, attack opponents from distance.
After the evolution into Dartrix at Level 5, users may choose either between Razor Leaf or Spirit Shackle. In case you want a very aggressive performance from your Pokemon, and earn a lot of KOs, choose Razor Leaf to buff up your Basic Attack. Otherwise, choose Spirit Shackle in case you prefer to snipe from a distance.
After Dartrix gets evolved into Decidueye at Level 7, the Pokemon can cause real havoc with its attacks. However, like before, attacks should be done from a distance for better effects. Be it Rotom or Drednaw, or any other opposition, just fire quills from a distance.
After a while at Level 8, either Shadow Sneak or Leaf Storm is available in place of Astonish. In this case, too, choose the move according to your role. However, if you prefer to keep distance from enemies while attacking, which you should, Shadow Sneak should be preferred. However, due to its low mobility, it is vulnerable to speedsters too.
The priority should be the Top Lane, due to Rotom. However, venturing alone isn’t recommended at all, especially into enemy territory. At the initial stages, the middle lane can also be chosen, so that Rowlet can be evolved as soon as possible. Decidueye’s Spirit Shackle can also be fired into either of the lanes from a distance if the middle lane is chosen.
Decidueye with other Pokemon
Our Pokémon Unite guide will also look at the combination of Decidueye with other Pokémon during Unite battles.
Best Synergies with Decidueye
|Mamoswine||A melee defender can be a very useful partner for Decidueye. While Mamoswine takes up damage and attacks opponents from close range, Decidueye does its job from a distance.|
|Zeraora||This melee-type speedster can be a perfect partner for Decidueye due to its high mobility and scoring abilities, which Decidueye lack. Not to mention Zeraora’s attacking capabilities.|
|Garchomp||This allrounder perfectly complements Decidueye’s company with its endurance, mobility, and offensive melee attacks.|

Pokémon Unite Decidueye Tips, tricks and strategies
This guide will also discuss some tips and tricks for playing the attacking Decidueye in Pokémon Unite
- First and foremost, irrespective of the move, attacking from a distance is must.
- Choose Leafage at first to hit multiple Aipoms at a time.
- Leaf storm is a great move while defending goals at the ultimate stages of the game, as it can shove away the opponent out of that zone.
- Using Scope lens and Muscle band should be prioritised as held items.
- Since Decidueye has low mobility, use eject button to escape risky situations. The move Shadow Sneak can also prove to a good run away move. Whenever you are surrounded by enemies or need to hurry for any reason, while moving in the desired direction, activate the move. It would get hold of an opposition, and help Decidueye soar away. Leaf Storm can also help in the same purpose, by shoving away the opponents.
- To beginners, Razor Leaf may seem to be a useless move, but it is not. If holding Scope Lens, always choose Razor Leaf.
- Use sure-hit moves like Astonish and Shadow Sneak on opponents with low HP to get a sure Kill. Even Speedsters can’t escape these moves. Fleeing opponents with low HP can fall prey to these two moves.
- Remember to target practice with the Spirit Shackle move. It requires mastering.
- Try your best to save Nock Nock for Zapdos. Whenever Zapdos’ HP lowers to its half, unleash the Unite move in its direction. Also, this move can be really helpful while the opponents are busy attacking Zapdos, and their HPs have lowered down.
Decidueye is one of the best attackers available in the game. A perfect synergy and build-up can make Decidueye a formidable force. But yes, remember to maintain distance from the opposition and level up the Pokemon as fast as possible.
