Gameplay Overview and Controls
When you first start the game, you’ll unlock a ship from selection and go through a quick tutorial battle which essentially shows out the controls for the movement of the ship and how to use multiple attacking options and defensive measures that you have at your disposal. Let us delve into the basics of the game.
Controls
The left side of your screen has direction and speed controls and the right side of the screen has battle controls and you can rotate the camera by swiping across the screen.
When starting, you can tap the Up and Down buttons in the direction map to essentially shift gears between Full, Half, Stop, and Back. Each position has its speed and wait essentially brings the ship to a standstill.
On the right side, you have battle controls which have:
- Health: This is the health bar of the ship, it will vary over different ships.
- Binoculars: When you tap this icon you essentially zoom in to the location to scout the map and track enemy ships.
- Guided Missiles: They are your primary damage dealers, locking onto targets and dealing respectable initial damage. Upgrades boost their power. Their medium reload speed prevents spamming. The major drawback of missiles is that they are susceptible to anti-air fire which is present in almost every ship albeit in a limited quantity.
- Autocannons: These chip away enemy health slowly and are used to attack close ships. Auto cannons do have fast reload speed and don’t take much time like missiles, but they do not have much range and do require manual aim to fire.
As with every weapon in the game, these also can be further boosted using resources.
There are many more weapon types you can equip your ship with, which occupy a slot of that weapon type when equipped. You should know that many of the weapons like Mortars, Fighters, and Cannons are costly and not worth purchasing until you have upgraded to a decent ship. So prioritize your resources to buy a decent enough ship.
Introducing the Basics of Warships Mobile 2: Naval War
Currencies
The game has three currencies:
- Gold is the premier game currency, purchasable for almost everything. Some ships and equipment can only be bought with gold. Earn gold through battle pass tiers or direct purchase, then save it for exclusive ships and weaponry.
- Banknotes are also used to buy ships and ships’ weaponry. You can earn them through a Battle pass or just by battling.
- Upgrade Tokens exclusively upgrade and enhance your ship and its weaponry. Earn them through the Battle Pass or by winning battles.
Battles
At the start of the battle, your team and enemy teams are divided by mountain ranges in between and your mini-map shows any detected enemy ships by you or your teammates. The detection range can further be improved by upgrading the Radar of the ship from the fleet menu.
The top middle part of the screen shows you the time left for the match to conclude (Usually 15:00 mins) to the left and right of the timer are the count of the enemy team (Red) and your team (Blue) ships alive in the battle.
Consumables
Your ship has two consumables which differ for each, but we will be focusing on the basics first. There will be more consumables unlocked, as you level up in the game.
- Missile Countermeasures: When timed right these effectively neutralize enemy-guided missiles and nullify the damage. But they are limited in quantity and have long reload times, Use them sparingly, and usually a notification of incoming missiles is given when the ship is targeted by them.
- Repair Kits: The health potions of your ship, when sustaining severe damage or during a fire breakout will restore the health of the ship to a level or douse the fires that keep sapping out the HP of your ship. It is the same as Missile Countermeasures these too have very limited quantity and have long reload speeds. Use only when your ship catches fire or when it reaches low health.
Tips to master your Battle techniques in Warships Mobile 2
- During battles, it is a good strategy to assist your teammates with larger ships and focus your fire by isolating enemy ships one by one.
- Focus fire will give you a better chance at bypassing the enemy defenses and give you a better chance to deal huge damage.
- It is also a good strategy to position your ship in a way that the Ship’s head is pointing toward the enemy, giving the enemy a smaller area to attack and bombard.
- The entire enemy team will see you once you are detected.
- Always use Countermeasures and Repair kits, as they can make a huge difference in your survival
- Cannons deal a huge damage but have long reload speeds, use when you are sure to hit an enemy
- While the Cannon reloads, keep alternating between Auto cannons and missiles to deal the most damage over time.
Warships Mobile 2: Naval War Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks
Here are some useful tips and tricks that I learned the hard way while grinding through Warships Mobile 2:
1. The Battle Pass is the best Purchase
If you are making a purchase in-game, currently the Battle Pass is the most valuable purchase in-game with great rewards for progression, exclusive ships, and some equipment.
2. Don’t spend much at the start
Hoard gold and banknotes from the start and avoid spending too much on early ships, as they are outclassed by high-ranking ships and lack weapon slots.
3. Level 15 is the sweet spot
Focus on leveling up, until you reach at least level 15 as you will unlock big ships and weapons there.
4. Camouflage isn’t worth it
Camouflage is purely cosmetic and doesn’t do anything in gameplay.
5. Use your Air Scouting Units tactically
At higher levels, you will have access to Aircraft carriers and Helicopters which help you quickly scout the map and deal damage to the enemy, but they are susceptible to enemy AA (Anti-Aircraft) guns so use them wisely.
Final Thoughts
Mastering the above tactics will enable you to significantly enhance your fleet’s performance and overcome challenges posed by the game’s inherent advantages for paying players. Trust me, while the game may favor those who spend money, strategic gameplay can level the playing field. Therefore start your journey and if ever in doubt, make no mistake to fall back to these tips to achieve victory without breaking the bank!
