eFootball v4.0.0: Five features that should be added with the 2024 season update

What do you think?

With KONAMI’s eFootball franchise gearing up for the v4.0.0, which is just around the corner, the buzz for the 2024 season update is really building up. KONAMI has kept fans engaged with regular updates and a steady flow of new card designs, turning each week into something exciting. But even with these advances, I believe there’s still room to grow, particularly in the mobile version, which is missing some crucial features. In this article, I’ll highlight five must-have features that should be coming to eFootball v4.0.0 to make the update a game-changer.

Five features that should be included in eFootball v4.0.0

1. Master League

This has been included in most of the posts I write at this rate. Undoubtedly, one feature that would truly elevate eFootball v4.0.0 is the introduction of Master League. Imagine diving into the role of a football manager, where you pick a team, make strategic decisions on transfers, develop your squad’s tactics, and aim for league titles and international glory.

This classic mode from the PES series would bring a new level of depth to the game, offering a more realistic and immersive experience compared to the current My League. The inclusion of Master League could be very important for eFootball v4.0.0, as it’ll help by providing an engaging and endless career mode that fans have been craving, and get the interest rates higher.

2. After-match stats

One of the bizarre new franchise changes has been the removal of after-match stats. Remember those classic PES days when, after every game, you’d get a detailed breakdown of stats, complete with those yellow-and-green heatmaps showing player movements and stats for both attackers and defenders? It was a key feature that made you feel connected to the flow of the match.

But for some reason, KONAMI decided to say, “Oh, you like that? Let’s take it away!” It’s quite surprising that these fantastic features were present in what was considered a ‘non-next gen’ version, yet the so-called ‘revamp’ lacks them. KONAMI needs to think about what’s best for the game and bring back some old features they removed to make this an improved football experience

3. Quick Substitutions

I’ve been stressing out about this addition for a long time now, and honestly, I don’t see it coming sooner. The frustrating part is that even EA Sports FC Mobile has this feature, and let’s be real, that game’s nowhere near eFootball’s level when it comes to gameplay. With more complex features already in the game, adding quick subs shouldn’t be an issue if you ask me.

Why do we need it? A feature as simple as quick subs can make a huge difference, saving time in crucial moments and even speeding up those long online matches that seem to drag on forever. You don’t need to pause the menu plenty of times to disrupt the match flow, and a tap or two will give you the player change you want.

4. There’s more to Goals and Assists

After a long shout, we got a feature where that would display Matches Played, Goals Scored, and Assists available in the game. Football thrives on statistics, and adding this makes the experience even more authentic. But, are goals and assists the only stats that are taken into consideration? Nope, there’s more, so we need them to be displayed.

Now, it’s time for KONAMI to take it a step further by introducing a dedicated player stats menu. Since the game already tracks basic metrics, why not expand it to include goals, assists, tackles, interceptions, and clean sheets? Defenders have nothing to show apart from matches played.

The system of tracking these data is already there, like how you see in Co-op games where 2/3 player data will be presented. In the same way, it should be shown for individual players as well in the future.

5. The “art” of Passing

I think you know what I’ll be mentioning here. If you have observed closely, the power bar at the top when you pass makes no sense. It isn’t a correct indicator of power, instead, it just shows distance. All passes, apart from the Stunning Passes, have the same power, so this definitely needs to be user-controlled.

A feature that would make a huge difference is the ability to fake a pass. In most football games, you can cancel a pass, but that’s missing here. Once you’ve locked in a direction, you’re stuck, no chance to correct it if you realize it too late. Being able to cancel or redirect would open up more strategic plays and fix those frustrating moments of misjudgment.

Bonus: Revamped Player Rating System

Now, if you think I’m discussing the player card ratings, you are wrong. Sure, the card ratings have been over-the-top lately, but that’s not the point here. Remember when they used to release lower-rated cards at the start of the franchise, and then suddenly jumped back to those insanely high-rated ones? Yeah, that’s still all over the place.

What I’m really talking about are the player ratings you’d get after each match, the ones that broke down how each player performed on the pitch. You score a poker with your striker who also gives the player an assist, KONAMI slaps an 8.5 rating max. That’s scandalous. The rating system needs a revamp, and if they are taking note of key passes and other stats in-game, better if they add important ratings to it.

I have more ideas for features that could improve the eFootball v4.0.0 update. Adding more game modes would be great, but I won’t complain since the daily matches are decent, especially with the penalty kicks. However, a new scorecard design is much needed, as they’ve only applied unique ones for the AFC Champions League despite having several licensed leagues.

Another change that should be kept in mind is the absence of referees on the pitch, a problem that’s been around for years. Despite repeated requests from players, this key feature is still missing, which hurts the game’s realism. The game’s league game mode, My League, is kind of good, but it does need some revamps to keep the replayability intact, especially giving rewards for Dream Team as well.
