BGMI Masters Series 2022 breaks viewership records on TV

BGMI Masters series is first ever televised esports tournament!

The BGMI Masters Series 2022, a domestic LAN tournament held for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) in India, organized by NODWIN Gaming has recently set TV viewership records on Indian sports television. The league stages of the tournament had been held from 24th June 2022 to 10th July 2022, and the Finals from 13th July 2022 to 17th July 2022 are partnered with Indian sports broadcaster Star Sports Network, which was broadcasting it on TV. The BGMI Masters Series is probably the first esports event to be broadcast countrywide and on such a large scale.

The tournament left behind several international events in viewership numbers

According to NODWIN Gaming, the hosts of the tournament, the BGMI Masters Series has set astonishing viewership records in India. Reportedly, the tournament garnered 1.2 million impressions and gained 12.3 million views during the first week of its broadcast on Indian television.

This feat seems even more impressive when compared to the viewership and impression data of other events as shared by Star Sports. The BGMI tournament on its first day, beat the total impressions of internationally followed events such as the Australian Open day 1, French Open day 1, and the prestigious UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

The French Open day 1 had 650,000 impressions and the Champions League semi-finals had 460,000 impressions as compared to the whopping 1,200,000 impressions of the BGMI Masters Series. This seems to be in line with the tournament motto, which is “Esports will be seen progressing past all the barriers of popularity like never before”.

Final Thoughts

The stated feats are truly extraordinary when one thinks that an esports event is not only competing with mainstream sports events but even surpassing them on some occasions. This puts into perspective how much esports and gaming as a whole has grown in the past few years and now represents a sizable chunk of companies and an entire industry. And as stated by us earlier, this actually is going to take the Indian esports scene to the next level.

What sets it apart is the general TV broadcast, as for the first time in Indian television history, esports has been broadcast for the general public to view. And as it stands, BGMI is still the undisputed leader when it comes to online gaming in India.
