Activision Blizzard’s Q2 2023 financial results reveal that Call of Duty Mobile has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing $3 billion in total revenue since its release. Alongside, there has been a mention regarding the other Call of Duty games which is scheduled for a Q4 release.
Call of Duty Mobile remains a go-to action game since its release
Ever since its release in 2019, it quickly became one of the popular action titles available for mobile, and ever since, it has been a go-to title for lovers of the genre. During its four-year journey, Call of Duty Mobile crossed 500 million downloads and $1 billion in revenue in May 2021, celebrating its first significant milestone.
In the 2022 annual report of Activision, Call of Duty Mobile was reported to account for over $1 billion in Activision Blizzard’s total revenue for the preceding financial year, which was another incredible feat. The announced Activision Blizzard’s Q4 and 2022 financial results also reported a growth of approximately 60% year-over-year in Q4 driven by the game’s performance across all platforms.
The official statement read: “Call of Duty Mobile engagement and net bookings were stable year-over-year, with the team continuing to see a positive response to enhancements to the player experience and optimization of live operations. Lifetime worldwide consumer spending on Call of Duty Mobile since its October 2019 launch passed $3 billion in the second quarter.”
There are active developments for the CoD franchise closing in on its 20th anniversary
Approaching its 20-year anniversary in October, Call of Duty boasts approximately 90 million monthly players, with over half of them actively engaging on the mobile platform. Activision’s teams are diligently working on highly anticipated new installments in the franchise, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter alongside COD Warzone Mobile, currently in regionally limited release.
Now, after closing in on four years of launch, the game is still running strong. Hitting the milestone of $3 billion in lifetime revenue within a short span of time is an impressive accomplishment by all means. Hopefully, the run will continue and we get to see the accounting for more good runs in the future.
