Short Circuit Studio has announced to launch the acclaimed minimalist survival city-builder, Dawnfolk, on both Android and iOS on August 3, 2026. Created by solo dev Darenn Keller, the game is now recruiting players for the closed beta test, while global pre-registration is now officially live.
Get ready to build a thriving settlement from almost nothing
So, Dawnfolk is an award-winning minimalist strategic city-builder set in a world swallowed by darkness after mysterious obsidian monoliths crashed from the sky. Here, you play as a ruler trying to save a kingdom lost to shadows, alongside a mythical companion named Lueur, who grants you the power to reclaim your land. And I’m already loving this medieval fantasy mix setting.
Gameplay-wise, you can explore a medieval encharted world, collect and manage resources, and slowly build your own thriving cities, all while surviving the dangers hidden across the darkness. And I also like how the game rewards you for playing well while also making every decision meaningful as you experiment with diverse strategies and play styles to grow your tiny settlements from a few tents into a thriving kingdom.
Overall, Dawnfolk looks like a cozy and enjoyable experience with easy-to-learn gameplay that avoids complex systems or lengthy tutorials. Moreover, the blend of city-building, mini-games, skill-based challenges, multiple game modes, and more keeps things fun and fresh. Now, I can see why this game has won so many awards.
