- Clash of Clans May update adds a second permanent Builder for Builder Base progression.
- Barbarian King now unlocks much earlier, starting from Town Hall 4 progression.
- Gold Pass improvements and returning-player events arrive alongside May balance adjustments.
Supercell has officially rolled out the Clash of Clans May 2026 update, bringing several quality-of-life improvements focused mainly on progression, newer players, and Builder Base upgrades. This follows the two state-of-gameplay updates they have shared this month, where they discussed CWL changes, balance adjustments, and future gameplay plans.
Clash of Clans May 2026 update: All you need to know
Second builder joins the Builder Base
An extra Builder for Builder Base progression is the latest update, and they also get unlocked early. The new Builder appears in the shop starting from Builder Hall 2 onward. Once unlocked, you can run one additional Builder Base upgrade simultaneously.

However, there is a requirement attached: all Home Village Builders must already be unlocked before you can access them. So effectively, you need all five regular Home Village Builders before purchasing the new Builder Base Builder.
Barbarian King now unlocks earlier
Here’s something that surprised me the most. Barbarian King is unlocking three Town Halls early. So from now on, Barbarian King will unlock at Town Hall 4 instead of Town Hall 7, where you also get the Hero Hall to reflect the same.

According to Supercell, feedback from newer players showed that reaching Town Hall 7 before seeing your first Hero felt too late, so the team decided to move Hero access much earlier into progression. The system works slightly differently at lower Town Halls, though.
| Town Hall | Barbarian King Status |
|---|---|
| TH4 | King unlocks at reduced strength |
| TH5 | Stats increase further |
| TH6 | Full Level 1 King stats |
| TH7 | Normal Hero upgrades begin |
At Town Hall 4, the Barbarian King starts with 50% of the current Level 1 stats, alongside weaker base equipment values. These stats automatically upgrade as your Town Hall increases. Dark Elixir progression itself is not changing, so actual Hero upgrading still starts at Town Hall 7.
Gold Pass improvements arrive in the May update
Supercell is also making two changes to the Gold Pass system. The first change focuses on retroactive Stamp Card bonuses. Earlier, if you bought the Gold Pass later in the month, you permanently missed the extra premium points from already completed Stamp Cards. Starting from the June Gold Pass, those missing bonus points are now granted automatically once you upgrade.

The second change brings back loyalty rewards for consecutive Gold Pass purchases. If you buy the Gold Pass again after purchasing it the previous month, you now receive one extra Stamp immediately after purchase as a loyalty bonus.
Returning players get new engagement events
The update also adds a new event system designed for returning players. If you have been away from Clash of Clans for a while, a new event appears when logging back in, offering challenge levels, rewards, and progression bonuses to help you get back into the game faster.
The May update also activates the balance adjustments previously revealed in Supercell’s second State of Gameplay blog. You can check the complete balance updates and the intent behind the adjustments in my balance update article.
