Free Fire crosses 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store

Garena’s Free Fire joins the billion downloads club

Free Fire, the popular battle royale game, has crossed the huge milestone of 1 billion downloads on the Google Play Store, all thanks to its growing community. It is the first Battle Royale game to do so despite taking on other giants in the genre like PUBG Mobile and Call Of Duty: Mobile and has seen rapid growth

The game has joined a small group of other games like Subway Surfers and Candy Crush Saga which have more than a billion downloads on the Play Store. In an announcement on their LinkedIn page, they thanked the players who helped them to reach this milestone and also announced a special event to celebrate their success this August, which would also coincide with the 4th anniversary of the game.

Along with the regular content updates to hold the player base, year Free Fire has been doing a lot of collaborations with other brands such as McLaren, Attack on Titans, Street Fighter, etc. Also, this year, Free Fire World Series 2021 broke the all-time viewership records by peaking at 5,412,278 viewers and having an average of 2,108,727 viewers. This shows the increasing trend of popularity of this game among the community.

Simplicity is the key

Free Fire has made a name for itself as a battle royale game among the handful of popular titles despite not being graphically impressive or having as good gameplay as PUBG Mobile or CoD: Mobile. However, it is more accessible than other games since it requires the bare minimum hardware to run and is popular in Asian and Latin American countries where people usually have lower-end phones.

Some people also prefer it for the simplistic gameplay and shorter matches. That being said, this is a big milestone for Garena to reach 1 billion downloads. As the mobile gaming community continues to grow, other games will also be reaching these big milestones.
