Stray Fawn and Sidekick Publishing has announced their new chess-like roguelike strategy title, Gambonanza, which is set to launch on mobile and PC later this year. It is developed by Paul Giovannini, better known as Blukulélé Studio, and ATEO will handle the mobile ports.
Get ready to experiment with Gambits and tiles to capture every pieces
Gambonanza is set on a compact board that reimagines traditional chess into a bite-sized, strategy-driven roguelike adventure. Here, you can experiment with tactical twists, invest your winning, and discover new rule-bending Gambits, tile and piece combinations, while battling challenging bosses.

And this one’s quite challenging too as you must capture every single piece on the board, not just the King. On top of that, the board also slowly crumbles if you waste too many moves. I found the dynamic reserve system pretty cool since you can store extra chess pieces off-board for tactical plays.
You can reshape your run with Gambits, enjoy mini-games, and more
With 150+ Gambits, you can completely reshape a run, from supercharging specific pieces to forcing enemies to skip turns. Besides that, you can also upgrade tiles and enhance the board with golden squares, blessing tiles, and protective surfaces for tactical advantage in tougher rounds.
Overall, the game looks very promising and has the potential to pop off like Balatro. Everything seems great so far, from the vibrant pixel art with a nostalgic CRT filter to fun mini-games inspired by pachinko, slot machines, and Gachapo, bosses, strategic board upgrades, variety of Gambits, and more.
Gambonanza is set to globally launch on mobile and PC later this year. The game is yet to be listed on any app stores, so stay tuned for that and for release date announcements.
