Genshin Impact version 4.0 phase 1 banners will go live after the server maintenance on 16th August and will last till 5th September at 17:59 server time. Version 4.0 phase 1 banners will feature one new 5* character, one new 4* character, and one new 5* weapon.
Genshin Impact version 4.0 Phase 1 first character banner: Conjuring Chiaroscuro
This banner features the debut of the 5* event-exclusive character “Spectacle of Phantasmagoria” Lyney (pyro/bow). He is the first 5* character from Fontaine to join the playable roster. Being a Pyro Bow user, he is being compared to both Amber and Yoimiya, but only time will tell if his kit will become more impactful than theirs or not.
Lyney will be accompanied by the 4-star characters “Elegance in the Shadows” Lynette (anemo/sword), “Trial by Fire” Bennett(pyro/sword), and “Shining Idol” Barbara (hydro/catalyst), who will receive a huge drop-rate boost.
Among these 4* characters, “Trial by Fire” Bennett (pyro/sword), and “Shining Idol” Barbara (hydro/catalyst) are also permanently available in the Standard Wish – Wanderlust Invocation without any boosted drop rates.
Genshin Impact version 4.0 Phase 1 second character banner: Discerner of Enigmas
This banner features the second rerun of “Valley Orchid” Yelan (hydro/bow) since her release in version 2.7. She is one of the best characters of all time. Yelan will be accompanied by the 4-star characters “Elegance in the Shadows” Lynette (anemo/sword), “Trial by Fire” Bennett (pyro/sword), and “Shining Idol” Barbara (hydro/catalyst), who will receive a huge drop-rate boost.

Genshin Impact version 4.0 Phase 1 Weapon banner: Epitome Invocation
This banner features the event-exclusive 5* weapons The Great First Magic (bow) and Aqua Simulacra (bow). These are the signature best-in-slot weapons for Lyney and Yelan, respectively.
The banner also features the 4* weapons Sacrificial Sword (sword), Favonius Greatsword (claymore), Favonius Lance (polearm), Sacrificial Fragments (catalyst), and Sacrificial Bow (bow), all of them will receive a huge drop-rate boost.
All of these 4* weapons are also permanently available in the Standard Wish – Wanderlust Invocation without any boosted drop rates.
Final Thoughts
Lyney is a new character whose value is difficult to determine at the moment. Players are advised to wait a couple of days before deciding to pull for him. Yelan is one of the best characters in all of Genshin Impact. She has a very high pull value due to her elemental affinity and personal DMG potential. If players are waiting for the Hydro Archon or other Fontaine characters, then it is justifiable to skip pulling for her. But otherwise, the decision to pull for Yelan is a no-brainer.
Among the 4* characters, Bennett is the best ATK buffer who can also provide a reliable heal/cleanse. He has consistently been a top-tier character since the beginning. Any ATK scaling character will benefit from having him on the team. If Lyney’s best team turns out to be Mono Pyro, then Bennett is going to be the number 1 support in that team.
Barbara is a pretty good healer and everyone gets her for free. If you regularly use Barbara, then this will be one step towards getting her C6, if you haven’t obtained it already. She can also be used in a Nilou Bloom team where she can act as an enabler.
Just like Lyney, Lynette is also a new character whose value is difficult to judge at the moment. At the very least, being an Anemo character, she can use the Viridicent Venerer artifact set and shred enemies’ elemental RES. This weapon banner is actually one of the best of all time. Both of the 5* bows are great stat sticks. The passives may only work for the intended character, but just about everyone can take advantage of the CRIT DMG% sub-stat. Even the 4* weapons are of great value.
