NetEase’s 5v5 shooter, Operation Apocalypse is shutting down on December 12, 2024

Meets the same fate as Hyper Front!

Story Highlights
  • The game is about to cease all operations without having reached a global launch.
  • You can still play the game until December 12, but it is no longer available for download.
  • Supposed to be a successor to NetEase's Hyper Front, the game also meets the same fate.

NetEase Games has announced that they will shut down the service for their sci-fi 5v5 shooter title, Operation Apocalypse on December 12, 2024. The game was recently revealed and was announced to launch in China on August 30, 2024.

NetEase decided to pull the plug on Operation Apocalypse as it failed to meet expectations

Operation Apocalypse is a 5v5 multiplayer tactical shooting game similar to Valorant, built using Unreal Engine 4. This is the successor to NetEase’s Hyper Front, which was also shut down in 2023 due to a lawsuit from Riot Games over its strong resemblance to Valorant.

Unfortunately, NetEase Games has recently announced on their official Weibo account that Operation Apocalypse will be shutting down citing the game’s performance not meeting expectations. All operations will cease on December 12, 2024, and you won’t be able to login to the game anymore.

The game’s download portal is already closed, and both game recharge and new player registrations have stopped. The game’s official website will shut down on December 12, 2024, at the same time the game’s service ends.

NetEase has announced a welfare plan to compensate the players

Here’s some good news for players who were devoted to the game. The game has launched a corresponding welfare plan that will provide benefits such as:

  • Android users can access growth benefits for NetEase Games like Knives Out and Firefly Assault
  • iOS users can try out the new NetEase game to enjoy a better gaming experience.
  • Existing Operation Apocalypse players can continue to use their unused Star Stones in the game until December 12.
  • Unused Star Stones obtained through real money will be converted into equivalent points and stored in players’ NetEase Games mailboxes or mobile accounts as compensation. You can use these points in other NetEase titles.
  • All the above benefits are exclusively available to players who played NetEase Games’ official version of Operation Apocalypse.

It’s unfortunate as Operation Apocalypse showed great potential but is going to shut down its service before even reaching a global launch. Fans of the game are also unhappy with this decision, as many have purchased items with real and dedicated their time playing the game.
